Build an i7 Hackintosh with a budget of $800 bucks?

Hi,

I would like to build a hackintosh to use with Pro Tools. I have been using Pro Tools on a Quadcore PC for years, and I am tired of the instability of it.

I have a budget of $800 bucks. Is it possible to build an i7 Hackintosh with this budget? I've spent the last few days looking for the right parts but honestly, there's so much info out there, it's a bit overwhelming.

If anyone that has been using Pro Tools on a hackintosh can recommend me parts for a rock-solid system (within my budget), I would greatly appreciate it.

Absolutely yes! I have been pricing out a similar machine and found it can definitely be done on an $800 budget. (as a desktop system only of course-- no keyboard, mouse, or monitor)

I don't have the exact prices handy from Newegg, but my system consists of the following items:


Shuttle SH61R4 case/motherboard
intel i7 2600 Sandy Bridge CPU
8GB DDR3 RAM
1TB HD

It all added up to under $800. A similar Mac Mini system costs $1000 and it has a slower processor and less memory. :)

If you have any extra money to spend however, I'd upgrade the case to a Shuttle SH67H3 (adds USB3 and SATA3 ports) and an i7 2600K CPU (allows overclocking). Either way, you've got a good system there.
