I was wondering how hard it is to get a computer with parameters indentical with the Mac Pro (current, default version from the apple.com) and Ive found that really hard. The main problem was dual-cpu mainboard, so I stopped at 1 CPU QC.
I wanted to get as similiar to the Pro as possible... heres what I managed to find, at affordalbe price.
Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS4 motherboard,
Intel Core 2 Duo E4600 2,4GHz S-775
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2400MHz S-775
4x1gb of DDR2 memory (I unfortunately, MB doesnt support ECC), wokrin' 2x Dual Channel
and here comes the dilema.
HP NVIDIA Quadro FX370 256MB PCI-E
Gigabyte Radeon 2600Pro 512MB DDR2 128bit 2xDVI & TV
Well, I think two graphics cards are kinda cool here, but only with the Radeon... will it work properly? Will it really take advantage of these two cards?
WD SATA II 750 Gb HDD - bigger is better
LG GSA-4167b DVD-RW as I arleady have spare one (but its ATA133), or can you recommend any DVD-RW drive?
I will manage to get some casing from an old QuickSilver (man, these were really beautiful ones...) or a powerMac G5 so lets forget the casing.
Its all about 1400-1600 PLN = ~625-710$ (no casing, no power supply)
Any tips, advices? Any motherboard like that but with ECC support? Which graphics card should I choose? Im mainly into webdesign, and I do a lot of FCS (hobbystic).
