New Build - New User - Help Please!
Greetings all, and thanks in advance for assisting me in this project. Someone recently showed me their OSX86 system and I was astonished. So here I am trying to pour throught this forum, InsanelyMac and the OSX86 Wiki. The problem I've found is a lot of the hardware is outdated, and I'm not sure which avenue will be best for me. I am a Network Enigeneer by trade and have a great deal of experience with any Windows, or Linux Builds, and have always longed to build a Mac. I understand the legalities involved, and will be purchasing a full copy of Leopard, however from what I've read I think it may be best to go with a Kalyway install, but would love to do a vanilla if possible.
All that said, the system I am going to rebuild has the following:
- ECS Motherboard (POS, was included for free with my Processor)
- Intel Q6600
- DDR2 2GB
- ATI HD4870
- All SATA HD's
- IDE DVD/RW
I hate the motherboard, and will be replacing it anyways. This is also where I'm having the most conflicts, as most of the ones recomended are out of date chipsets, or I'm unable to find one at NewEgg.
Ideally I would like the Motherboard to be Fully compatible from the start so as to make the build as easy as possible and as stable as possible. I understand that applying a sound patch is common practice as well.
So please, if you have a moment and would like to guide me in the right direction, give me your recomendations.
Also, I would like the motherboard to support at least 8GB of RAM and have either SLI or CrossfireX (I know I cannot use it for OSX86, but this is just in case I decide to build this for windows in the future.)
If anyone has had luck with the 4870 let me know, otherwise give me your best suggestion here as well.
Try to get something like this, about that ATI, forget it XD it wont work until Snow Leopard or something
