Ok, the HCL list on the OSX X86 project Wiki says the Linksys WUSBF54G is compatible using the ZyDAS ZD1211 drivers, but I have to edit Kexts. While that information is helpful, it would be much more helpful to know how one has to edit the kexts to make it work. I've tried everything I can think of and I am getting nowhere.
So I come to you for help. My Asus R1F is crippled without wifi.
What do I need to edit in the Kext to make the usb dongle work?
okay probably the easiest way to add a kext is to have it on your desktop. Then with finder go into the /system/library/extensions/ directory. Drag and drop your new kext into place. It will ask you to authenticate and then to enter your password. no it is where it needs to go you are note done yet.
Now under disk utilities open up the terminal.
then type the following:
sudo -s (it will then ask you to enter your password)
chmod -R 755 "yourkextname.kext" (don't use qoutations)
chown -R root:wheel "yourkextname.kext" (don't use qoutations)
rm -rf extensions.mkext
rm -rf extensions.kextcache
you can close your terminal at this point.
now that you have done the tedious part it is time to restart you computer cross your fingers and pray as some kext have a tendency to cause a kernel panic. I have had some that do and some that don't but, good luck and let me know how it turns out.
Please let me know if you have any questions please feel free to ask.
