I have this same board, however I can't seem to get the onboard ethernet going. When trying to configure the nic I don't even get the option for ethernet setup. Just modem. I need help with this. Any BIOS settings I need to be aware of?

Sorry about that... I think I left out a "wondering". I meant to say what is the best $600 build is.

The most important components will be CPU, main board and video card.
Gigabyte EP45-UD3L, Intel core 2 quad Q8400, and NVidia 8400 or 9800 will be about $300.00. Some good RAM, 4GB about 90.00, and the rest will be your choice/budget.

    Hi,
Yes. But the point is that i7-920 is 8 logical core, not physical core (real core is faster than logic). The C2D 8400, at half price, with that board run at 3.2 Ghz nicely, with 4 real physical cores. Unless you're into some very heavy video/graphic encoding/design, generally there no really need/use for any thing more than 4 cores, and software that can utilize all 8 cores now are counting on fingers.
Beside, there is a custom modified BIOS, with all DSDT/patches, available for that board that make your hackintosh so much easier and perform better.
    Regards,

    Ok, thanks.

I don't need a ethernet card for this motherboard right?

    G5 Case

with this setup you can install retail SL with tonymacx86.com scripts.

all together cost me 630 EUR, some parts from eBay but all will work and look like Mac Pro for 1/4 of the price.
And if I sell the G5 Dual 2.0GHz parts than even less.

Default Motherboards (Gigabyte, EVGA, and ASUS)

It's been nice to find this forum. Another forum we all know of makes you post 5 answers before you can ask a question. Which doesn't make much sense when so many of us are trying our first Hackint0sh, and have a ton of questions.

Okay, the Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 is listed by the OP in the first post in this thread. Gigabyte has apparently discontinued this board, and released an updated version (GA-X58A-UD5) which removes one x4 slot and apparently uses the x4 lanes for its new features: USB 3 and SATA III.

    Some questions:

    1. Does anyone have any experience with this GA-X58A-UD5 new version board?

    2. Does anyone have any experience with the other boards in the Gigabyte X58 series?

BTW, They're coming out with a new one (I believe GA-X58A-UD9) which will include USB 3, SATA III, and two nForce 200 chips, which help to power seven x16/x8 slots, this is apparently Gigabyte's answer to the EVGA Classified 4-way SLI board.

    3. On the topic of the EVGA Classified 4-way SLI (or 3-way SLI) boards, what kind of success has been had with Hackint0shing these models?

    4. What do the pros here think of ASUS X58 boards and their Hackt0sh potential?

I'm looking forward to reading your replies.

    Thanks
