    Hey guys,

just wanted your confirmation that everything will work with this setup before i buy it:

    ASUS P5QL Pro, P45

    Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300 4x 2.50GHz 2x 2MB BOX

be quiet Pure Power 430W ATX 2.3

    Kingston 8GB PC2-5300U CL5

    Zotac 9500 GT Zone Edition 512MB DDR2 2x DVI, TV-out PCIe Passivkühlung

ASUS WLAN PCI Karte WL-138G V2

Will use it for Final Cut, C4D, Photoshop...

Would you recommend a better grafix?

    thx in advance!

edit: im still think about if i should go the chaper way with a Gigabyte GA-G31M-ES2L and only 4 gig of ram an instead buy a second tft... you think i will notice a big difference performancewise?

    Hey guys,

I'm interested in getting a new PC and turning it into a hackintosh. Icchansan said that the MSI x58 Platinum worked fine. Just wanted to get some opinions, do you think this would be the same for the MSI x58 Pro-E? It's significantly cheaper and think it would make a good pair with an i7 920.

    x58 Pro-E

    x58 Platinum

The only differences seem to be:

    - Platinum has more PCI-E ports
    - Platinum has 1 more ethernet port, 1 more SATA port and 2 more USB ports
    - Pro-E has 3-way SLI.
    - Platinum has a bigger heatsink thing on it

Other than that there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of difference in the specs, although i'm sure I'm missing something. Is it safe to say that the Pro-E model would work fine as a hackintosh if the Platinum works?

    Cheers, appreciate the feedback.

I'm trying to get some funds together for a work(mac)/gaming(win) box.
I want to run 10.5.8 Leopard on this setup and also boot windows 7 for some gaming with the 4870.
Any tutorials that are easier to follow would be helpful, I've built a computer before just never tried to set up a hackintosh.
Question 1: Do I need to manually install most of the drivers in OSX, or do the latest releases of the installation disc have current hardware drivers already?

    Prospective Specs(will they work?):
    Gigabyte EX58-UD5 ATX LGA1366 X58 Motherboard
Intel Core i7 920 Quad Core Processor LGA1366 2.66GHZ Processor
    OCZ3OB1600LV6GK 6GB DDR3 3X2GB DDR3-1600 PC3-12800 CL 9-9-9-24 RAM
ASUS WL-138G-V2 Wireless G Network Adapter PCI Card
LG GH22LS50 22X/22X DVD+-RW SATA DVD Writer Lightscribe
Western Digital WD10EADS Caviar Green 1TB SATA 32MB Hard Drive
    XFX Radeon HD 4870 750MHZ 1GB 3.6GHZ GDDR5 PCI-E 2XDVI HDCP Video Card
Antec Three Hundred Mini Tower Gaming Case 300 ATX
OCZ StealthXStream 600W ATX12V 20/24PIN Active PFC ATX Power Supply

Question 2: Would Snow Leopard work smoother for installation and stability with these parts? I'm currently on leopard and have no major needs to upgrade right now and all my production/design apps work fine(though slow on my 3 yr old mbp)
Question 3: In order to get PC 4870's to work with the mac pro I know they need to be flashed with different firmware(I've never done this), is this the case with the hackintosh too? Or do they work in OSX without flashing?
Question 4: Do 4890's work? If so it is complicated to get them working?
Question 5: I'm getting one 1tb drive, should I get 2 smaller drives, 1 for each OS rather than partitioning the 1tb?

    hi guys,

i was a power macuser for about a decade, but I miss the assembling of my own computer and ... I don't want to spend too much bucks on a machine

so this is my setup i am going to buy. what do you think? should work well?

    gfx: Sapphire HD4870 Vapor-X 1024mb
    cpu: core i5 -750
    mobo: GIGABYTE P55-UD4
memory: Kingston ValueRAM DIMM 4 GB DDR3-1333 Kit <-- I am not sure if it is necessary to get faster rams? like 2000mhz ?

    optical: LG GH-22NS sata

Wondered if anyone can answer this. I have read the suggestions on hardware config but, does anyone know if they would all work well with Snow Leopard? If not what is the highest version known to work well?

If I were to go for the basic setup of :

    Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-G31M-ESL2
    Processor: Core 2 Duo E2200
Video: Nvidia 7300 GS, 8600 GT
    Memory: 2GB RAM DDR2
    Hard Drive: 1x300GB 7200 rpm
    Power Supply 350/450w
    DVDRW Serial ATA

Would that rig be able to run Adobe CS4, Light Room etc ok? I don't mind increasing the cpu/graphics card spec, just need to be absolutely sure this software would work fine and more importantly, faster than a G5 ?

    Thanks.

I think to be honest we are not going to get any replies here folks. Best thing is to check out the hardware compatibility list and choose your components accordingly. Then,it's just trial and error.

You can check the list below

    Just wanted to update:

i am writing from Snow Leopard now. Got it to install on the third try. Not too bad and it has updated just fine. so it's OSX 10.6.1

    I used this guide.
HOW-TO GUIDE: Snow Leopard Retail 10.6 on Asus P6T Deluxe V2, How to get a (nearly) perfect 10.6 install going on Asus P6T
    WARNING
Read through the whole thread. Its a collaborative effort and alot of people post up files you will need. just read it all before trying. It will be a lot easier if you do.

The wifi card worked right out of the box which was great cause I could download files directly as the issues arose. Now I just need to tweak and I am going to overclock but that will be for another day.

The Ethernet isn't working yet, anyone have any ideas where to go?

Just wanted to thank you icchansan for this Sticky. It has been alot of help.
