    dear icchan

Great forum, much appreciated site for valuable info!

What I want to buy Apple doesn't sell yet (mid range desktop). So I'm going to build it for myself.

    Here's my proposed system

    Mobo: Gigabyte EP45 UD3P
Graphics card: Either Gigabyte GTX 260, GTX 275 or 285 (non of these cards on Wiki so may have to choose another
Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad 9650
    Memory: Corsair DDR2 8GB PC6400
Hard drive: 1 x WD 500GB hard drive (OS) 1 x 1TB WD Hard drive (data) both 7200rpm Caviar
Power Supply: Corsair TX750 750 watt ATX
Case: Old G5 Powermac Case which I will modify
OS: Mac OSX 10.5.6 retail Windows Vista dual boot

Use: light to intermediate cad workstation and CS4

    Would the above be OK?

I would appreciate any advice regarding the choice of my graphics card as it seems that the three cards mentioned above are not supported at the moment.

Once I put the final parts of the jigsaw together I'm good to go. I'll keep you all posted as to my success with this combo.

appreciate any feedback that this community could provide.

    thanks
    Keeza70

    Default

Mobo: ASUS P5Q SE PLUS LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard
    Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 Wolfdale 2.8GHz LGA 775 65W
    Memory: 4GB DDR2 (G.Skill F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK)
    Video: 9800 GTX+
    Hard Drive: WD 1TB 7200rpm
    Power Supply: 750W
    DVD: Samsung SH-S223Q

I took a base build because this will be my first time building a hackintosh and did not want to run into too many troubles. I will be doing gaming and dual booting (XP -> 7 when it's released). I won't be overclocking until I'm more comfortable. Will this all work fine? Anywhere where I can trim a little cost? Could I use a 650W power supply? Such as this one? http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboD...t=Combo.198951

Great combo, you can get guides for your mobo, try with retail installation, but like you said theres no support for those video cards, you can try with 9800GTX or HD4850/4870, check netkas site to know about new nvidia support, report back your progress

XD

Good luck once again you guys

Default Shuttle Experience and Core i7 thoughts

First I have to say what a great thread going here. Kudos

Secondly, thoughts around an Core i7. Are they worth the extra cost for the performance step up ($400 diff)?

Finally, how about compatibility on the following two Shuttle barebone systems?
    Core i7
Shuttle SX58H7 Shuttle Global - Home
Realtek ALC888 Audio, (2)Realtek RTL8111C GigE. no FireWire

    Core 2 Quad/Duo
    Shuttle SX48P2 E Shuttle Global - Home
Realtek ALC888DD Audio, Marvell 88E8056 GigE, TI TSB43AB22A FireWire.

    Common Components:
    Video: 8800 GT 512 MB
    HD: 2 750GB SATA
    Optical Disk (Blu-Ray, HD DVD, DVD+-RW -- Future proofing and ready for dual boot.)- Newegg.com - LG Black 6X BD-ROM 16X DVD-ROM 40X CD-ROM SATA Internal Blu-ray/HD DVD-ROM & 16X DVD±R DVD Burner Model GGC-H20L - Blu-Ray Drives

    6 GB DDR3 or 8 GB DDR2 RAM.

And of course a retail copy of OS X.

Thanks in advance, even a yeah I think it will work or nope I know it won't is good enough for me. I won't be doing much intensive work on this rig, just a lot of photo editing.

    C

    ***UPDATE***

I have changed my mind and I am going with MSI X58M.

The board components are almost identical to the MSI X58 Platinum that was recommended at the beginning of this thread. I am still curious your opinion on the Shuttle motherboard.

    thanks,
    c

    Default Question need help!!!

i did an install, my computer is stuck at "verifying DMI pool data"

I did a boot 132 with retail 10.5.6 install. leopard intstalled, restarted, then now is hung on "verifying DMI pool data"
What do I need to do now?

    *UPDATE--
ok, I don't know what happened, but I was able to get passed the "verifying DMI pool data" thingy. The next set of directions are to "copy the corresponding dsdt.aml file to the root of your hard drive." How do i copy this file to the root of my hard drive?

    *UPDATE 2
ok, regarding the verifying DMI pool data, in the bios I changed the order of the drives. 1 should be floppy, 2 should be cd/dvd, 3 should be hard disk...this solved it. The root drive...I still don't know but I got passed it. Here is a link of the procedure I followed.
    http://an43.com/osx/
It seems pretty straight forward, but this olddumbguy took a while to get it going and things seem to be going well. The boot132 way seems to be ok. I mean I had a few panics (obviously) but it can be worked through. Anyway, I hope my contribution for a possible solution to the "verifying DMI pool data" will help someone in a bind.
Anyways, here is what I used:

    GA G31M-ES2L
    Intel 7500 Dual Core
    Asus EN9400 512MB
Arctic 7 (or something like that fan)
    600W power supply
    2 sticks of 2GB memory
    500GB 7200 rpm hard drive
    DVD reader writer
    Cool master case
    Original Leopard
    Samsung HD monitor

Well you can try getting a thermaltake fan or another brand, you can check towers in newegg or tigerdirect, they have some combos for X58 mobos, just buy the case XD, for ethernet you can always check in the HCL, the link is in the 1st post, good luck

    Default On my way...

    Well, bought my components today..

    EP45 UD3P Gigabyte motherboard
    Q9650 Intel processor
    DDR2 Kingston 4gb Ram
    Coolermaster RealPower Pro 650watt
    Vista Home Premium 64bit
    Mac OSX 10.5.6. Retail pack

I'm going to install an old video card for the time being till the GTX 275 is supported (and comes down a bit in price) and to make sure things are working. My old card is a Nividia Geforce 8500GT.
I'm also considering a GTS 260 but haven't checked to see if thats supported yet.

I hope that this config will be OK.

Now starting to modify the rear of the G5 case....

    I'll keep you posted.

    Default motherboard

    hello,

My ASUS P5e failed yesterday, expect a replacement from Cheap Laptops, Hard Drives, LCD Monitors, TVs and more at Ebuyer but not sure what board to choose. The Gigabyte EP45 UD3P appears to be very well respected, but would need to check compatibility with exiting Ram... kingston KVR800D2N5K2/2G.

looking to optimise for MAC, no desire to instal windows, would appreciate any other recomendations from the ebuyer range of motherboards..please ..

also should i order a replacement graphics card, currently using XFX 8600GT XXX Edition 256MB DDR3 Zalman. as i have a HD 26 inch monitor, i would want to realise as close to 1920 x 1200 resolution.

    thankyou.....
