I might go with the super cheap option with the 8600 gt. I plan to use it for image editing, web site authoring and publishing software. I'm sure the super cheap specs can handle those task. My question is about gaming. Can I run source games like l4d with those specs?

Well with that video card I can run Crysis, Mirror's Edge, GTA 4, no idea whats l4d XD
