    Red face Hackintosh Hardware Advice

    Hi All

Firstly let me thank everyone on this forum for a job well done, simply cant elaborate how informative and useful this place really is.

Coming to business, i plan to build a Hackintosh sometime next week and i've been researching the path I want to take including the hardware setup and software setup. I will be updating the same with pictures and detailed instructions on my blog and here ( .. if possible ..) I'm planning on building a sub $1000 machine and i'm quite sure the components i'll be using would be easily available everywhere. The reason behind this is, i guess is the lack of a mid tower moderately priced mac between the mini and the pro, imo the imacs are just fugly ...

Anyways narrowing down my hardware specs were easier said than done, i knew a couple of things that i wanted, but a few things i'm not sure about.

For starters the motherboard's giving me a terrible headache, I've been through most of the hardware lists but i just cant find a reasonably priced mobo with 4 dimms that appears to be supported, what can i say , i just need to get 8 gigs of ram. So my first question would be which motherboard?

p.s. I'm a little partial towards the intel board

    Intel DG45ID or Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3L

The rest of my specs are

Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 Processor
    4 x 2GB Kingston DDR2 RAM
    WD 500 GB HDD
    Samsung SATA DVDW

My other question is with the Graphics cards
    XFX 8600 GT 512MB or nVidia 9400GT 1GB

for some reason i cant seem to find the 9400gt mentioned anywhere on the HCL, isnt it the GPU on the newer Mac Books?

Lastly in regards to installation, I have a retail Leopard DVD, and a Kalyway leo 10.5.1 Disc, which method would i be better of going with considering my specs, Kalyway or Munky's Guide using Boot132?

Thanks a Ton in advance , looking forward to sharing my build experiences back with the rest of you, maybe we can make this already easy process just a little easier.

    Hi

After quite a bit of research on a couple of forums i've decided to go with the Intel DG35EC, turns out the DG45ID isn't supported that well and looks like people have had issues with the sound and the Lan on it, not to mention the on integrated graphics dont work at all, quite a waste of cash if you'd ask me. Anyways I've ordered my components and well they should be here by monday , hopefully, here's a final run down again
    Processor - Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 (2.33 Ghz)
    Motherboard - Intel DG35EC
    Ram - Kingston DDR2 4 * 2GB for a total of 8GB
Hard Disk - Western Digital 500GB Sata
Optical - Samsung 20x Sata Dvd writer ( no blue-ray for me yet )
    Display - Samsung 2033 SW 20" LCD
Graphics - Palit 9400 GT Super 1GB (Still not sure about this though)
Input - Razer Lycosa Keyboard & Razer Salmosa Mouse

That about it, although i'm thinking of throwing in a 1TB ext hard disk too if i can afford it, but thats later ....

    icchansan,
Regarding my graphics card, which do you think is a better choice, in terms of compatibility and performance, the 9400GT or the 8600GT ? That being said, i dont mind getting my hands dirty working with efi strings/kexts to get the card working, i dont care if its not an "out of the box" experience, the end result is important to me, i'll need something that gives me bang for my buck ! hehe

again thanks for all the help, eagerly waiting for my parts to arrive so that i can jump right into this

Everything looks nice dunno the 9400 but I think is a normal video card, I mean, its like middle range like 8600, this one is really easy to install, about the efi strings is damn easy these days, I dont think you have a problem with that, check the guides, anyway is your choice I just can tell you both of them should work.

Good luck and hope you can post a progress
