Hello,

I am thinking of buying the mac-mini server as my primary workstation.
The price of this computer is $999 plus 100 for having 8GB.

What are my hackintosh alternatives? how much will a similar performing hack would cost?
I looked at the "budget" list from here: tonymacx86 Blog: CustoMac
And replaced the i5 with i7 (not sure I can do that and still be compatible, though) and came out with ~$800. Does this sounds right to you?

Another thing is someone had told me that apple "gets the best hardware" suggesting that even though an i7 is an i7, apple gets a line of processors which gone through more quality assurance, or are somehow of a better quality than the ones we can get for a PC.
Do you think this is at all possible?
