Does SATA Cause a problem ?
Hi All.
Just looking to build a new system and thought I would check first if there are any known problems installing into systems with only SATA drives? I have built systems before and installation was ok using IDE drives but as soon as there is a SATA drive in there, be it a hard drive or DVD Rom I never get past the first screen, always reboots and refuses to install. If I try the same distro (Jas or iATKOS) on a machine with only IDE drives it always installs.
So my question is this. Since I seem to need an IDE port for the hard drive and one for the DVD Rom what motherboard should I be looking at ? Most boards these days only have one IDE port...if any at all. Any suggestions ?
Thanks
Saul

Did you change the SATA support in the BIOS to AHCI?

errr...no I didn't. I think you may have saved me some money there. I'll try it on my current system tomorrow and let you know how it goes
Many thanks.

Ok I tried turning on AHCI support but it made no difference. System rebooted 4 lines into the first screen. Motherboard is a MSI P35 Neo2 by the way.

Although I have run various OS X distro's before I have never had to really delve into all the patching and other stuff that many here seem to understand so well.
I downloaded the modded bios for my motherboard but before I attempt to flash it I am wondering if that will have a detrimental effect on loading any other OS such as XP or Vista ? Or does it just add/alter something to let OS X boot ?
Thanks again

Well, I had to MOD my BIOS, DSDT Patcher, didnt even exist in that momment, it wont affect any of your OS, Actually I flash it on Vista, then I restart, and all my OSX disc works @.o, none of them works before, I tried like 6 versions... Now I can even Install Retail. Good Luck
P.S. You can read about the MODDING Part on my Tutorial, Just the MOD Part, anything else is for HPs
