    Talking Basic Media Center

    Hello Everyone,

I have seen a few basic $200 Hackintosh post on various searches but they are all very different and all seem to have one or two problems where their choice of X part keeps it from working completely perfect.

I would like to build a Mac (as a media center and server for my living room) but I am not experienced programmer and would like to know if there is a "sweet spot" of components that work with minimum headache.

My goal is to have something that is quiet (over 5ft away) and supports 1080p resolution. Pretty basic honestly. (oh and under $300 if possible)

Thanks for all the help in advance !

    Check this combo:

    Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-G31M-S2
    Processor: Core 2 Duo E2200
    Video: Nvidia 7300 GS
    Memory: 2GB RAM DDR2
    Hard Drive: 1x300GB 7200 rpm
    Power Supply 350/450w
    DVDRW Serial ATA

for $300, I dunno if you can get 1080p support :/

icchansan.. I was hoping you would reply.

256MB of dedicated video memory wont be enough to power 1080p? (That sucks) My Nividia 9500M on my new macbook handles it fine and its shared.

What would you recommend going up to and which kernel have you seen work successfully on this kind of setup?

With this configuration you dont have to worry about that, you will run vanilla, even Retail disc

About the 1080p, I have no idea, I dont care about that stuff but you can check if that video card support 1080p on google, and if it doesnt check 8600GT or 8800GT

    Good Luck :hack:

    *For those searching later on*

Google search on Nvidia 7300 GS card:

    http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/200...idia_7300_gs/3

"BT: What would you say is the single best feature of this card?
AF: Personally, I would say it is the video capabilities. This board is capable of running H.264 video at 1080p. Very sweet for a Media Center PC. This card will be able to decode H.264, MPEG2 HD and VC1 at 1080p resolutions [that's 1920x1080 - Ed]. This is thanks to the dedicated video engine built within the chip and our PureVideo technology. That is a pretty amazing feature for a card that costs well under £100.
