Atheros 5700 on iDeneb 10.5.5
Hi,
My laptop has iDeneb 1.3(10.5.5) installed on it, and I'm having some trouble with my wireless. I have a Compaq C762NR(Here's the page for the Drivers..just so you can see what the laptop has inside http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...roduct=3678779).
My laptop has the Atheros 5700 Wireless, and from what I've read, there's been a long history of it not working. I've tried installing the kext that lots of people have recommended, but every time I install it and restart my laptop, I just get a solid blue screen upon boot.
Anyone have any suggestions? Ethernet works, so I can get internet that way, but I really want wireless as I move around with my laptop quite a lot.
Thanks

You have an atheros 5007 wifi card, which is completely incompatible with leopard as of right now. There was some excitement among people who thought they got their wifi working, but they were really just idiots that didn't care to verify that they actually had a 5007 (most of them actually had a 5006).
You'll need to replace your wifi card with one that is compatible if you want your wireless to work. Sorry, but there's really no other solution.

What about with Tiger or any other previous versions of OSX?

Wifi on the 762NR.
Agreed.. I've been all over this problem like stink on shit and I've yet to find a working solution on the Wifi front (Atheros AR242x 802.11abg, 168c:001c rev 01) working under 10.5.5..
What IS out there, is a twinkle of hope... I've gotten as far as having 10.5.5 recognize the MAC address of the card, but beyond that, nothing. Cant scan for any SSIDs, cant connect anywhere.
The best solution right now is to go out and buy a D-Link DWA-140.. Its a small USB wifi dongle with native Leopard support. You can get them at Best Buy for about $55 right now. Works like a charm. The only downside is having a 2 1/2" black thing with an orange light sticking out of the side of your laptop.
