    Default 10.5.5 on an HP dv5?

    I have an HP pavilion dv5 and was wondering if I can install 10.5.5 on it. It boots the iDeneb 10.5.5 dvd and installs ok, but it won't boot once it installs. I think this machine should be perfectly capable of running OS X. Here are some relevant specs (its not on the HCL page on osx86projct wiki):
    Core 2 duo T9400 @ 2.53GHz
    NVIDIA 9600M GT 512MB
    3GB RAM DDR2 800MHz
    ICH9 chipset (I think)
    Intel Wifi link 5100
    It is centrino 2, so that should give possibly more specific info
    I have a real mac, so if I need to do anything with that, its not a problem. It's been a while since I did anything with OSx86, and I don't know much about it anymore. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    There were a couple different ones. When I installed to USB Key, I got the 'waiting for root device' error, both with and without the USB fix. When I installed to USB HDD, it would give a bunch of DNSResponder errors (some said "could not set mach lookup policy") I also installed to a spare partition on the internal drive and got the same as with the USB HDD. It seems to hang around the network card, which is an RTL8168C.

    edit: I am using the vanilla 9.5.0 kernel. I also tried typing cpus=1 into the darwin boot options, and that didn't change anything.

    edit2: I also got this once when not booting verbose (from the hard drive, not the install DVD): http://www.majotphotography.com/Test...5/DSC_4170.JPG

    Iono look if you have AHCI support, try with a patched kernel, and try to install any LAN. You can do it post installation.

    Another thing try with another distro... like Leo4all or JaS

    I am pretty sure it supports AHCI, the intel matrix storage management console labels the adapter as AHCI. I just got JaS 10.5.4, and am going to try that later today.

    Here are some bizarre problems I'm having the the JaS:
    esata no longer works, before with ideneb 10.5.5 I installed over esata because it might be faster than usb. In JaS 10.5.4, it doesn't see the drive at all, when hooked up via esata or usb.

    edit: also, when installing to a partition on the internal drive, the instaler froze with 2 minutes left.

    I have a HP pavillion dv5 1054tx with exactelly the same hardware as you (ICH9 chipset is correct)

    I have sucessfully installed iDeneb 1.4 (10.5.6) with the following customise options;
    -ACPI Kext 10.5.6
    -PS2Fix Keyboard
    -IDT (from the audio section)
    -Chipset ICHx Fixed
    -Kernel: Dont select anything, the default vanilla 9.6.0 will be installed
    -Battery manager
    -PowerOf_OH (OpenhaltRestart.Kext by Pystar
    -NVdarwin 1.2.5: Selected 512mb
    -IOUSBFamily

    Overall the system is working very good, with the following working;
    quick launch volume and mute button, track pad fully functional, sound, sleep and screen saver, battery indicator fully operational, HDMI video working but still working on the sound...The following is currently not working; For some reason finder crashes when i mount an external usb hard drive, although all other usb functions work, if anyone can help with this please reply. The intel wifi doesnt work, but ive got a belkin usb working with no trouble.

    Sorry if the reply is a bit late, but good luck, let me know how you go.....

    have the same comp and here is what u do. it wont boot 10.5.5 because the graphics drivers are wrong and thus wont allow to boot.
    1.boot the computer with -s (type this at boot options)
    2. you will see 2 commands on the list and type the one with mount -uw /.
    3. then type cd /System/Library/Extensions
    4. then type rm -rf NVdan50.kext
    5. then exit
    it will then scroll some text and then should boot up. if this doesnt work reply cuz i might have typed something wrong
