Default [Warranty] iPhone Repair Idea while not in US ?

Well, I try to get my iphone fixed but they won't do it because it's not activated. Would it be possible to just buy a new one and trade it out for my old one? Or does anyone have an idea to get around the activation issue? Would it be possible to just use the generic sim cards from the iphones that they have on display? I have battery issues and its quite agrivating

    Go to the following website:

    https://selfsolve.apple.com/GetWarranty.do

Enter your serial number and country, and submit it. The following page should state "Note: Warranty coverage does not depend on iPhone activation."

Print that out and bring it with you to the applestore and shove it in their faces if they don't agree.

Default O2 UK iPhone imported from US - Needs Repair - Apple UK won't help

    Hi,

I bought an iPhone last year from the US, been using it happily for months.

When O2 released in the UK I was able to use my sim without unlocking just activating.

Last week the screen went all funny, flashing and different colours etc, then the phone got REALLY hot. SO much so that I left it outside as I thought it would explode.

After a few hours it cooled down but clearly was never going to work again. I called Apple UK to ask about warranty as it's obviously a hardware fault and they told me I have to return it to Apple in the country it was bought in.

I could send it to my pal in the US and have him drop into the local Apple store but it's a real pain in the ass, has anyone else had similar responses from Apple about warranty.

I told the guy that I hadn't used it and basically hadn't gotten around to opening it, then when I did it wasn't working. He still insisted that I had to return it to the US for service.

I was under the assumption that Apple's warranty was a Global Warranty or is that just crap.

Apple's warranty usually is global. I'd download whatever information about the iphone warranty and try to see if it says that you need to return it to country of purchase. If not, ring up their UK customer line and cuss them.

Also report this to the OFT via their online report form.

As I've said before, that line there only applies to the first two weeks, which you have to decide if you would like to keep & activate the phone.

I know, it should state that, but this is apple we're talking about

Bottom line, Apple have every right to refuse you warranty if you have not activated the phone. When you buy it, it clearly states that you have 14 days to activate or return it.
