[Warranty] iPhone died, no receipt, can I still get it fixed by apple?
Latest Update 10/04/2008:
it turned out that the phone has indeed been activated by AT&T, however the apple guy ask for the activator's informaton which I don't have. Mind you know I bought this second-handed, (who knows how many hands already lol. ).
So what do you guys think in this case?
Can I(my friend actually,
) just say that the phone was bought second hand and we don't know that guy's name?
Is apple's warranty transferrable? Never bought an apple produce before.
Thanks a lot.

Hi everyone, I bought this iphone last year it's a 1.1.2 and I jailbroke it and used stealthsim with it. however it died on me completely, tried many tricks, no dice.
also, I bought it from someone else therefore I don't have the receipt. I don't have an account with AT&T either.
I was wondering if there is any chance to get it fixed by apple.
Thanks a million times.

Try and just take it to the store and say it died. All phones handed in for repair (iPhones) to AT&T just get sent to Apple. Take it to Apple and hope they say yes

If the device can still turn on and kind of work (except for the phone part for example) you should first of all restore it so it isn't obvious that you jailbroke it.
As for receiving service, as long as you can provide the serial number which is written on the back of the iPhone (so unless you threw the box AND scratched the iPhone really bad where the S/N is you should be able to get it
) they should be able to lookup on their database and see when it was sold and I guess which credit card paid for it.
But I wonder if they'll tell you anything about the fact that you never activated it through AT&T, you should think of something to answer in case they ask you that.

Well if it is 1.1.2OTB and you have 4.6 bootloader they will repair it,BUT you need to click refurbish in Ziphone and restore to 1.1.4!

You could not provide your serial number and then they may be forced to repair it anyway....

If that's true then even with the serial number they would still check.

thanks for the replies guys.
The iphone wouldn't turn on at all, even after pluggin in for prolonged time.
Home + Power doesn't work either.
The iphone displayed some " incompatible accessories used" message and wouldn't charge anymore and then it died completely when the battery ran out.
It doesn't do anything either when plugged into either pc/mac.

Have you tried DFU mode?
You could say it was a gift and you want to activate it but it died so you can't sign up for a contract.
Assuming they can't turn it on and see its hacked they may swap it for you but may make you activate it in store.
But you can always cancel it when you get home!
iPhone US 8GB
FW 1.0.2--> iUnlock--> iPhoneSIMfree--> 1.1.1 --> 1.1.2--> Soft upgrade 1.1.3 --> 1.1.4 using signal.app
iPhone UK 16GB
FW 1.1.3 OOB --> 1.1.4 --> iPlus 1.2 unlocked!
<----If I helped you out, rep points are always nice (thanks for that idea!)
