Suondmao has added a 3.1.2 patch as of November 16:

    "ipad patched (3.1.2)
For firmware 3.1.2 you can use the following version:
    IAPD 3.1.2 patched
In this version the process of patching has changed completely from that article. If you're curious to see how it works and how to get themselves to the solution, however, recommended to follow what was written, but the point patch will be completely different.
If you just want to know where and what to change then:
    addr 0x21A14, change BNE with B in hex from 02 00 00 1A to 02 00 00 EA."

Will update with my success/failure on my 2G iPhone.

Update: Still no luck with my Memorex iFlip portable media player and this modded iapd
I am starting to give up hope on this -- Everything worked fine through v2.2.1, but not anymore. I even spent $20 on a Scosche power adapter, hoping it would work, but it didn't.

I guess it is a good thing that the iFlip only cost me about $30 when I bought it, cause I havn't been able to use it much with my iPhone...

My modded iapd do not enable video out un fw 3.1.2. The patch only cut out the not_made_for_iphone pop up with "not officialy supported devices".

I'm still working on a patch that allow to keep the video out signal enabled.

    Default Reverse Engineer Official Cable?

If anyone has access to an oscilloscope and an inline breakout board for the iPhone connector, it might be possible to determine how the iPhone interacts with the official cable vs how it interacts with a third-party cable. Then an adapter of some sort could be constructed to mimic the official cable and trick the iPhone.

The official cable use a private apple protocol to autenticate itself to iphone.
    So there are 2 ways:
    - Patch the iapd daemon and make a video cable only using pin 8 from iphone dock
    - Do not patch iapd file, sniff the autentication protocol between the iphone and one original cable and make own cable using pin 8 AND 12,13 to send to iphone the right data.

pinout: Apple iPod and iPhone (2g, 3g) Dock Interfaces pinout and wiring @ pinouts.ru

The first way is possible and easy, i've already do it under fw 2.2.1 in my project SNES2iPhone Project — Make your iPhone a full portable gaming console but now i do not have time to find how to patch the iapd file under 3.x.

Could you post some source code for your project? Even if you don't have time to find a patch for 3.x or to explain the whole process for patching 2.x, maybe someone else who does have time could look at your code and figure it out for 3.x

Default Resurrecting a dead thread with new news...

I've managed to bypass the authentication in a purely software-based manner (e.g. no replacing system files) with a new addon I'm going to be calling Resupported. I hope to have it posted in the Cydia Store by the end of the week.

As of right now, I can enable and disable video out on the fly via a SBSettings toggle. The cords I have tried include a chinese cord that deauthenticates after 15 seconds, and the Keyspan Tuneview for iPod.

This is wonderful news. I almost broke down and bought a rip-off Apple cable over the holidays. I'm glad I didn't. Thank you for your efforts.

Purchased Resupported today and tried it out. Works as advertised on my iPod Touch (1G OS 3.1.2). Great job. Thanks.
