Vibrate switch broken - software solution required
Hi, i have the following problem:
The vibrate/silent switch on my iphone is broken, and it's stuck on silent. However, i know that the speakers work as i can listen to the ringtones under 'settings'. So, i may not be able to switch on the ringing mode via HARDWARE, but in theory a simple program could bypass the switch and turn it on digitally.
Unfortunately, i am lacking the knowledge and ability of developing such a program, so i am kindly asking for your help here.
This seems to be a widespread problem btw. The first thing that usually breaks, after people bought the iphone, is this damned switch.
It is not an option for me to exchange, or get any sort of service from apple as i did not buy it off them. Anyway, i have no warranty for it.
Does anyone have an idea for a SOFTWARE solution for this problem?
There was such an app about a year ago. It was called "Silent Switch Bypass 1.0". Unfortunately, it was for 1.1.4. only and the source repo is gone now too. It would be enough to use that app and update it for 2.X already.. It doesn't have to die. I know a lot of people who have the same problem, and would kill for this fix..
If you don't have a clue, can you point me into a direction? Maybe a site where i can suggest apps?
Thank you in advance for your input
I remember the bypass switch on 1.1.4. (Originally created by our very own XianLi)
There isn't a solution for 2.0+ because of code signing.
I can point you to the plist file that deals with it though:
I'll also look into it.
UPDATE: Ok, I have compared both plists from 1.1.4 and 2.2 and have updated the 2.2 version using the changes made in 1.1.4. I have no idea if this works. Give it a go and let me know:
Add the following source to Installer:
Scroll down to the navco786 category and install "Silent Mode Bypass". Then reboot.

First, thank you for taking notice and trying to help! I appreciate it.
I tried it out, and i can hear the keypad tones now, which i couldnt before, but it doesnt ring still...
Whatever you did, it changed somewhat for the better. I'm gonna do some more trial and error and see what i can find out.
UPDATE: The SMS sound works, as well as all the other sounds EXCEPT the damn ringer..
When i turn off vibrate in the "Ring" mode, it still vibrates when i get a call, so that means that it still thinks its in silent mode. Makes little sense to me, because silent mode means no keypad tones, sms, and others. I know a few apps ignore the silent mode, like Alarm, but this combination now is weird..
I guess I'll have a look at the plist as well.
Thank you so far! This was probably the most productive response i ever got!

I'm having the same exact problem. has anyone found a fix for this>?
Great start to a fix - please keep trying for the fix to the ringtone
Thanks for the work so far - I have had the same results - sms, keypad clicks and alarm works but ringtone does not.
Could anyone please post this on a Cydia repository as Installer is not available on 3.0
