Angry [Unexpected Event] When iPhone wants to be a toaster

I have a Iphone unlocked on 1.1.1 everything has been fine untill tonight!!!! My battery was dead so i pluged it in to charge and came back in room after about 15-20 minutes to check my messages and it was seriously as hot as a toaster so i unplugged it and am letting it cool down but so far i cant get it to boot or anything!!!! Any Ideas what the deal might be or suggestions of what i might try to get it back to working condition????

Just to let you know up front I did NOT get it wet or anything like that!!!

    thanks in advance

Well since I've never used any apple products before the iphone i guess I kinda just assumed the chargers were all the same but have now figured out THEY'RE NOT!!!! Im out of town for the holiday and plugged my Iphone into what I thought was her Iphone charger here in her office but she just said it was for her ipod but it looks the same! The charger for the ipod shows to be charging the iphone but then suddenly the pic on the iphone screen just disolves and turns white and starts getting super hot super quick......I have it hooked up to the actual Iphone charger now and it has the pic of the battery charging (red) with the little lightning bolt symbol but it wont boot!!!!! WTF......Did I just fry this damn thing or what?????????????

I guess the charger that screwed it up was a fire wire cable for the ipod.....now i have no signs of life at all, I put it in recovery mode now it wont boot at all!!

    Any ideas please ?

    ouch.
yeah because you used the improper charger/cable for it, it fried the iphone, perhaps wrong voltage.
i've read the iphone will easily fry as it does not have any auto shutdown features to block the incoming charge. so it seems easy to plug it in and ruin it. one has to be very careful when charging these things nowadays.
sorry to hear the bad news...try to take it back to apple and say, look at this lemon. its broke.
play real dumb and say its broke while u left it charging overnite on the dock.

Is there a way for them to check the baseband or anything else for that matter in the apple store somehow? I figure Im only gonna get 1 chance at the return untill its blacklisted anyway!!!!

Wierd thing is if I plug the fire wire charger back into the phone (the 1 that fried it) It will bring the charging screen back up but then starts getting real hot again....what if I was able to switch to the correct charger after forcing it to boot with the fire wire (wrong 1) and was able to do a restore in itunes as i know it recognizes the phone still would that erase any signs of my unlock using ipsf? or will i need to virginise it and everything?

    I cant believe i truly have a fuc*ing brick !!!!!!!!!

    any suggestions greatly appreciated

I had exactly the same problem as you did.

Our company hs many ipods, and therefore chargers are always floating around.

I then used a firewire ipod charger, which funny enough plugs into my iphone perfectly. At first, it's normal, the battery lightning bolt appeared, but later, it went really hot, and then the screen went white and flickers like hell.

So after that ... the unit kind of functional, but the heat doesn't go back to normal.
Also, i had the "no service" thing happen. When you boot it up, everything works fine, and then after a few minutes "Repair needed Iphone cant make or recieve calls"
appears on the screen and no serivce on my phone network, and no wifi.

That same night, I went home, and charger it on my macbook pro, and the charge got to full. I always put the iphone next to me in bed for alarm clock. However, after fully charging the unit, overnight it went really hot (not charging), and it was really strange, so I took the precaution of moving the iphone away from me.

By morning, the battery had totally gone, and my iphone never boot again.

Now, I have opened the cover, and everything looks fine, but my guess and hope it's the battery which I have ordered one.

Anyone has the same experience would be greatly appreciated.

I will update once I replaced the battery.

hmm this cant be the case. I have many times used the iPod cable to charge my iPhone and my iPhone cable to charge my iPod. Both are working fine.
