Default [Unexpected Event] Newton law and iPhone are not friends.

    Hello,

I dropped my iPhone, and it is now stuck in an endless on and off cycle. See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kMRfE...eature=related for what is exactly going on. Right before it got stuck, I got a message saying; "This accessory not made for iPhone" even though nothing was plugged in. Also from time to time I get the recovery mode icon which is the itunes logo and the usb charger pointing to the itunes logo. Any thoughts???

    Thanks!

It's definitely possible to replace the screen, but it's not exactly inexpensive. I think it's like $200, but that's at least less than a new iPhone.

That's the problem with the iPhone's glass screen, it is almost 100% unscratchable, and the image is pristine, but glass is obviously much more brittle than plastic so it cracks.

If I am understanding correctly, only the outer glass broke, the screen is still completely functional, right? It's funny how even when Apple's products are broken, they still work, :p.

damn dude that endless loops sucks!

i wonder if it's a self-test that's not working right and therefore keeps restarting?

did you try to open it to see if you could see what was happening? Or perhaps just take it to the apple store and see if they could help you?

    Thanks for your reply,

I'm in Canada and bought this phone in the US, and there are no apple stores in Canada that I know of.

I'm afraid to take it apart..have you done it before? What's the safest way to do it?

The phone isn't unlocked, but I didn't get a box or a receipt when i purchased it used. Do you know if Apple can do anything?

Default [1.0.2] Bottom of touch screen not responding after dropping iPhone!

Hey guys, my sister dropped her iPhone and now the "slide to unlock" portion of the screen is not responding! Does anyone know if there's a way to fix this?

I tried holding both buttons on the phone to do a hard reset, but no dice. I heard replacing the General preferences file could fix this. Any truth to that?

Finally, will a restore possibly fix this? She still has 1.0.2 (unlocked). It should be safe to restore with 1.1.1, then go through the process of updating to 1.1.2/jailbreaking/unlocking from there, pending the screen works again, correct?

Anyway, this seems hardware related but I have heard of people fixing the issue. I can't find a solution though.

Finally, in the event that I can't repair the phone, is there a way to completely virginize the 1.0.2 unlock without actually getting into the installer?

Any and all help would be much appreciated!

hi nikos, im in the same boat. i dropped mine and now half the touch screen wont work. i tried to restore and tried to increase the sensitivity of the of the touchscreen (by replacing the general.plist file with the Jost modified one) but unfortunately these did not work. The problem with trying to virginize the baseband (which is necessary BEFORE you try to upgrade...thats important, as you are likely already aware) is that I cant set the autolock to never; as far as I can tell, if the phone goes to sleep in the middle of the virginizing process, you can mess up your baseband (i.e., you may end up with the dreaded IMEI 0049 problem...or worse). The virinizer script takes about 10-15 mins to run.

I would say run out to an Apple store, if possible, get yourself a replacement (I have seen people that have the same problem and Apple just replaces them no questions asked as long as you have an AT&T account...which you may not). If you go now, you will likely get a fw 1.1.2 replacement...which will likely be sw unlocked any day now.

I really cant see anyway around this problem...I asked the Hackint0sh community and one person stated I could virginize without using the phone but didnt provide details or answer my question about the autolock setting (so I just ignored it). Alternatively, if you cant get to an Apple store or dont have an AT&T account, you could find a place that will replace the screen. I found one in Michigan that will do it for 130.00 USD. good luck, hope this helps.

    Hey Friends!!

you have dropped your iPhones & why do you think its software??
it a hardware issue....usually its the touchscreen itself!! need to change it...
or if you are lucky then its just the connector loose connection due to drop damage!!

    Regards,

    Francis

Thanks for the replies guys. I figured it's a hardware issue since she dropped it, but people claim they have solved the issue via software.

I heard 1.1.3 virginizes teh phone. If this is the case I will update and link the phone to my father's AT&T account so we can return it. Does anyone know if this is true?
