[Unexpected Event] Drowned iPhone in a Lake > "repaired" by exchange in apple store
hi,
i am one of the stupid guys, who dropped their iphones into water (at least it was a beautiful alpine lake here in austria/europe).
my question - can anyone confirm the following apple discussion post:
"Water damage is not covered under warranty, but you can have your iPhone "repaired" for $249 plus tax, which will be an exchange for a new or refurbished iPhone. The exchange will include a one year warranty"
this comes from a guy with 24,674 (!) posts ... but it is still the only one ....
is this really how it works ? you bring it /send it in and they exchange it ... no questions asked ?
another problem:
it is a turbo-sim unlocked 112 iphone (yes ... too lazy to try out the new stuff), which i might have to send to apple (where, how ?) or ask a friend to take it to an apple store. are they going to notice, that it was hacked (with a dead phone probably not) and how are they going to react .....?
thx to the experiences apple store users for their opinions.
greetings from austria
peter

AFAIK, $249 is the "just do it" fee. As far as the store is concerned, you're paying for having screwed the iPhone up in some way: unlock gone bad, lake, whatever.
You may want to install the AT&T SIM (or "forget it" at home) first, though, but I don't think you'll have a problem.

thanks for your reply.
just to give you feedback:
a friend just took my iphone to the states and to an apple store, where they would not even touch it when they found out, that there was no at&t-cared in it (which i "forgot" to to leave in the phone).
strange behaviour ... he was willing to pay the 249$, buy a new wired and a new bluetooth headset. but they just ignored him .... "bring it with the original sim-card and we will serve you ..."
so he had to return to austria with the unfunctional iphone and i will keep on using my old se-p1.
i liked my iphone, but not enough to let apple humilate me because of my stupidity.

Wow... that's strange, and quite annoying. I am sorry to have misled you.
