Default Top half of iphone screen unresponsive to touch

Hello all, Long time viewer first time poster. I need some help or advice. Yesterday my iphone's top half(above/and including "4 5 6" on the keypad) quit working. I am not sure what to do here. It will still make and receive calls, all the other touchscreen buttons work. Am I out of luck here or is it possible apple would take care of it since it is still under their manufacturer's warranty. Apparently they only cover manufacturer's defects if I understand correctly.

    Thanks all

They'll only fix it if it hasn't been dropped. If there's obvious (or even subtle) signs of abuse they're going to say no, even if a drop didn't cause the problem. The "genius bar" has been really tough in offering warranty service on the iPhone, blocking out legit customers from warranty service they should rightfully be receiving!

a lot of people have had similar problems. Including myself. As long as your phone doesn't have huge dents or holes, just tell them you don't know what happenned. That it just stopped working for you. Don't ask them to fix it. Tell them. If youre lucky like I was, they'll just get you a new phone. If not they'll send it in for repair.

    instant classic.

Well a couple things. I dont have an apple store near me so I would have to send it off and hope that they fix it instead of just sending it back and it does have a couple nicks on the upper right corner where they could complain. They really arent big dents or anything like that. So I dont know, I might be just sol.

If I did send it in I would need to get it back stock. Is there a way via software, since I cant use installer to install anything since the top screen is not functional, to get it back to stock? I have 1.1.2 and it is jailbroken.

This is NOT a software problem. You're going to have to send it back to Apple if you want a replacement phone. Since it was jailbroken, I advise restoring it before shipping it to them, just in case.

The only faster way to get yourself a working phone would be to have someone else replace the touchscreen for you, but that's going to cost a pretty penny.

I understand it is NOT a software problem. That is obvious. What I was saying is that I need to get it "re-virginized" or whatever so that I could send it back.

Since I cannot make the top half work, is there a way to get it back to stock using software? Im at a jailbroken 1.1.2 and I just basically want it not jailbroken or whatever so I can at least try to send it in.

My sister is having the same problem with her iphone.

On the front screen (sprinboard) everithing is working, but when she's opening an application she can't use the upper half of the screen (or touchpad). On the springboard itself seems to be no problem. I really don't know if it isn't a software bug...

So what can i do outside a country where they aren't shipping the iphone? i can't bring it to a apple store in switzerland because they don't sell iphones yet :-( do i really have te virginize it and bring it to the states where we bought it and have it fixed there or have somebody solved this problems already?

May there be a chance that it is a problem with the baseband? I didn't saw it yet but i'll going to try to fix it with an 1.1.2 update and everything we can do because iphones are still no that cheap here :-(

My mistake, I misread your message. It's pretty easy to revirginize - just enter DFU mode and restore the phone (hold down both buttons while connected to reboot, and release only the power button once it turns off).

You probably don't even need to use DFU mode, but it'll definitely bring you back to stock beyond reasonable doubt.

i have a same problem, only solution which i have been suggested to replace the touch screen,i already broken my screen once so i am not gonna buy it again,as half of my screen working, get the installer from serach bar, just type one letter it will open installer, than download many icons, after getting lot of i cons start shifting them, drag it half screen it will reshuffle, get the wanted icons in the working half ,atleast u can use 90% facility ,
