[Sound] Problem with headphone and mic (not the usual problem)
A few days ago I got a brand new iPhone 16GB from T-Mobile Germany (not directly but from someone else) in a sealed package. Serial number starts with 88813. After activating, jailbreaking and unlocking it works absolutely perfect except one thing: There is absolutely no sound coming out of the stereo headphone and its mic is also not working.
The iPhone realizes when the headphone is connected and when not (indicating in the volume display). But when I play music or make a call with the plugged-in headphone I don't hear anything and the person I call can't hear me either.
So this is not the usual "no sound" problem when the iPhone thinks there's still a headphone connected.
The headphone itself is not faulty. I checked it with my iPod touch and I can hear music, so it works. And the headphone from my iPod touch is also not working with my iPhone.
Also the headphone button to pause/start music works on the iPhone!
One thing I noticed which may be important: When I switch off and on the iPhone with plugged-in headphone I can hear some short little noise (hissing?). So in my opinion there is no hardware defect. Especially because I compared with the iPod touch and it's the same there!
This is what I did until now:
- Used latest version of Pwnagetool to activate, jailbreak and unlock the iPhone (1.1.4).
- Used latest version of Ziphone to activate, jailbreak and unlock the iPhone (1.1.4).
- Plugged and unplugged the headphone countless times.
- Restored the iPhone.
- Reset all settings.
- Switched the iPhone off and on.
- Cleaned the headphone socket.
- I also tested the dock line-out and it works (so it's 'just' the headphone).
- Searched via Google...
- EDIT: Cleaned the headphone connector several times
Everything works on my iPhone except the headphone and its mic. So has anybody any idea???
Is there anything one can do to activate the headphone output and input (mic). Or any logfile in the iPhone I should have a look at?
One more question: If I restore the original 1.1.4 software (the iPhone is locked and unactivated then) should I hear the sound when I unslide on the screen to unlock the iPhone for usage and when I lock the iPhone for usage?
Thanks,
Tom

Thanks for you answer, although these are bad news. Why are you sure that it's really a hardware problem? What could it be (board, headphone plug)?
If so, I try to return it with the original 1.1.4 on it. Can you confirm if any sound should come out of the headphone when the iPhone is not activated at all?
Thanks,
Tom

Because you restored and you still have the issue.
Restoring solves software issue only.

well we are sure it is HW related so even if u restore and dont unlock you wont be able to use the ipod as the phone will need activation with T-Mobile.
like you said if u restore to original 1.1.4 you will be able to return it
it seems like its a faulty jack. . .cant be sue
you could try a replacement. Im from india and a friend of mine got his jack replaced coz he dropped his iphone at the beach. works fine now
