IMHO unless you have been inside the iPhone and damaged the part there is no reason to change this out. It is more likely there is a software problem or wifi chip failure than a strip of metal being the cause. I presume you have tried every other avenue to solve this before considering the radical take appart to change the antenna? e.g. tested wifi with a wirelessr outer that is not encrypted/full access enabled with permissions granted for your wifi IP.
If you do open the case, take particular care when lifting the screen (preferably using a strong sucker to pull the screen up rather than levering it- something like a sat nav rubber sucker is ideal) from the home button end of the screen. There are ribbon cables and connectors at the earpiece end that are very fragile! Good luck.

Just read your previous posts on the problem. You are going to have to go through a nasty process to sort this one! I suggest fully removing itunes from your PC, and I mean everything (google how to do this as there are files left behind on a simple remove programme). Alternatively do it on another PC. Start from scratch and DFU restore a clean version of 2.2 (not the one you have been using several times) Before you jailbreak etc do a test on the wifi - it should be back up and running.

Nope I don't think it would do anything. I believe your wifi loss originates from the failed operation to load firmware the first time, when it all went wrong. I truely think a fresh start on a clean PC with a clean 2.2 will solve it. Best not to tinker with stuff using ibooter, the correct/noncorrupt firmware should put everything back together for you.
