[Problem] Home button not working, and iTunes doesn't see iphone
Yeah, I unplugged my iphone from the charger this morning before i went to hang out with friends, and when i got home, i tried turning calling someone, and after the conversation ended i tried using the home button and it wasn't working....i tried holding the power button down and then turning it back on, but the home button still didn't work
i have a 1.1.2 jailbroken phone (not unlocked, still an AT&T phone)
i tried plugging it into the computer but the computer didn't recognize it either (and i tried plugging it into the charger and the phone wasn't recognizing that either) so i have no idea what i should do. (can't hard reset it because home button doesn't work)

sounds to me you have a broken home button, strange... just because you have a broken home button, the phone should be able to work on your computer.. call apple up.. they should help you.

Wait... did you try holding the power and home button at the same time? Wasn't clear from your thread. Yea, mine freezes up once in a while, you should do this...
TRY and attempt holding down both home/power button and turning off, if you haven't done this already. If you can't turn it off and restart(which might fix the prob), assuming you can access the springboard applications, hit settings, click on general, scroll down the reset, and on the next page hit RESET ALL SETTINGS, but dont hit the option to delete your phone book, just the phone settings.
In my case, my phone was buggin out, every time i called someone it would automatically go on speaker (couldn't turn it off), and when i called the person could hear me fine, but i couldn't hear them. Resetting everything helped in my situation, but who knows, could help in yours as well. Try it out!

I have exactly the same problem.
iphone fell on the ground and since then:
- the home button does not work anymore
- usb connection does not work anymore
- recharging works but takes forever
Iphone is jailbroken 1.1.4 and I tried literally everything from resetting, a complete reinstallation to opening up the iphone and checking if I could fix the Home button. Nothing worked.
My iphone is already worthless for months due to this non-working home button.
I believe that the only two options left are:
- reprogram one of the sound buttons (if that would be possible) to act as the home button.
- write a small application that places a software button in the top layer

Reason: hardware will be replaced, no need to write software anymore

I am getting my iphone fixed in a Dutch company (www.ipod-service.nl). I'll keep you posted on the result.

so how did everything turn out? I dropped my iphone this morning and now the home button doesn't work and when I plug it into the usb port of my computer I get a message -
"Power Surge On Hub Port
A USB device has exceeded the power limits of it's hub port.
For assistance in solving this problem click this message."
so I click the message and my computer is ok, but my phone is now a useless piece of garbage like this.
Anyone know what I can do? I'm going to an apple store in the next day or two to see what they tell me, but I'd really love to hear any helpful advise here.
Thanks,
David
