[USB] iPhone not recognized by Windows, not charging

This happened to me also. The phone will neither charge nor sync via USB. Fortunately though, it will still charge via Firewire, so it is not completely the end of it.

*** To everyone else who is having this problem, you can probably still charge your phone via firewire. ***

I haven't done a full restore, nor tried to put the phone into recovery mode, because I'm afraid it will get stuck and won't connect to the computer to restore with the USB not working. Has anyone else tried this?

I think that the problem is with the chip on the mainboard of the phone which deals with initiating usb connections for charging and syncing, but I would like to be proven wrong. Can anyone help?

Are you saying, by docking it with JBL speakers would help charging the phone again?

What happened with me is that, I put my iphone in one of those dock stereo and ever since, the "Device is not recognized with this..." message and won't recognize my USB so I can't charge nor restore. I have reset the phone and still nothing. Can't even turn off my phone and it's just now sitting draining battery... I can't get warranty from apple since it's past warranty + it's jailbroken and cannot restore..

So my phone was not being recognized at all by any USB wether it was for my mac, wall, car charger, but when I plugged it into my sister's iPod stereo, it started charging...

Before it started playing, it said, "Device is not compatible...would you like to put it in airplane mode"

So there is nothing wrong with the USB adapter for my iPhone or the wire, but something with the phone/hardware.

If I had to take a stab, I am guessing iPod stereo is not iPhone compatible or because it has been jailbroken, the iPod stereo does not recognize it and messed up with the OS inside the phone.

I am just glad I can charge my phone again atleast.

had the same problem with my PC today. Won't recognize and not show any charging (but still charge... meminfo showed the battery level increase). On my MAC everything worked fine (same cable).

So I just upgraded itunes from 8.0 to 8.1 and already DURING installation (probably when unloading/loading the iPod Helper services or something) it recognized and the "plugin sound" came and charging status on the phone.

This won't be a solution for any hw problems, but maybe to some of the others....

Have you all tried a hard reset (holding down sleep & home button till power off) and restarted the iphone? This seemed to have done the trick in my case.

This is caused by a hardware fault on IC LT 4066 the power and usb IC it need to be changed .Anyone else correct me if im wrong

If you have recently dropped the iphone your problem may be in the #4 ribbon cable. (i had not droppe mine..but..)

My symptoms.

Not recognized by windows
Not charging (apparently)
phone calls people could not hear me (speaker or normal)
home button not working

1st thing is that the phone will charge if you leave it in. you just wont see it charging and then all of a sudden it will go to a full charge.

Fix:
Open phone ( hopefully you know how, if not 2 screws.., suction cup.., pull and open carefully!!!)
remove the 3 front panel cables. (if you have not done this LOOK IT UP, you can break the cables if you do it wrong) the #4 ribbion cable is the one that connects the bottom assembly with the main logic board. remove it and then reseat it.

put phone back together. hopefully you will be all good

Same problem here...but it charging and also if i connect another iphone with same cable windows & itunes finds it...but not able to find the one i am using i tried all what i can do even googled but :( i just want to save my address book ( Contacts), DFU mode is indentified by both.

iPhone Woes

I had the same problem.

My iPhone suddenly stopped getting recognized or charged on connecting with my PC and netbook. It was getting charged thru' the charger connected to the same cable.

I tried-
1. Blowing off dust from the connecting cable ends.
2. Checking whether iTunes recognizes it. No.
3. Uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes ( same version) which is anyways an older version and everything else Bonjour, etc..
4. Doing all the jugglery with Device Manager > Services > Seeing whether Apple Mobile Device is started which it was already.

Nothing worked.

I then tried connecting my iPhone with an old iPod connector and VIOLA it is recognized and charging.

Worth a try.

Hello all, I think I'm having the same problem. My iPhone 2G 3.0 os was not recognized by my computer so I thought by erasing all settings and contents I could start from scratch. Not so! It still won't be recognized. It charges perfectly via Firewire and the problem is not with my iTunes because I have uninstalled and reinstalled different versions 5 times. This all started after putting my iPhone into one of those Stereo-Dock things which was probably meant for iPods only (DOH!). The message this device is not compatible showed up and that was the end of that.

Did you guys ever figure out what was wrong with your phones?
