in US market :)
I'm not sure what you're asking but the current highest general availability version of iPhone firmware is 1.0.2. As the only region you can purchase one right now is the US market then this is the case with all available iPhones globally. We know for a fact that 1.1.1 is the version on the 'International' ones demo'd this week and I would expect a version 1.1.X or maybe even 1.2.X to come out in the next 4/6 weeks to coincide with the release of the international ones. This upgrade is likely to bugger up our unlocks until the dev team work out another way in.
No guarantee that you're getting FW 1.0.2 with a new iPhone purchase I'm afraid but if Apple didn't play around too much with the baseband firmware, I'd say that there is a good chance that a software unlock will work with the first "international" FW (1.1.1 or whatever) release too.
If you want to make sure you get FW 1.0.2, you need to buy a USED one from somebody who can actually show the iPhone and it's FW version to you.
Since iTunes doesn't offer a new FW for the iPhone yet, there is a good chance that current US iPhones are still FW 1.0.2 or lower. Ask at the local Apple Store for an older batch or ask them when they got the last batch in. If it happened more than two weeks ago, there is a 100% chance that you get FW 1.0.2 or lower.
Good luck.
Well, 1.1.1 wasn't even released yet, so there isn't any chance that you're going to get it by buying an iPhone in a store right now. If you had it shipped, though, and 1.1.1 is released tomorrow, for example, and your iphone doesn't ship until Wednesday, well, you might just get the new fw.
And considering that all reports of "new iphones" have been with firmware 1.0 (*NOT* 1.0.2!!!), why would we assume they are going to be slapping 1.1.1 on them that soon??
