HW bricked iPhone: Battery replacement solution!
My battery died after I unsuccessfully tried the HW unlock method on a friend's iphone. It left me with a brick and short of an explanation of why I turned a 450 Euro phone (current price here in China) into a
Then I remembered that I'd read somewhere about the Nokia N95 battery being the same as the original iphone, so I went out and found a cheap Chinese replacement battery (8Euro). After desoldering the three wires of the original battery, i had to solder two new cables to the nokia battery and then to the iphone's logic board. That was that! My friend's phone started up as soon as I attached the USB cable to my PC and I was able to restore the phone with itunes.
Sadly enough that still leaves me with an unlocked phone (or as my friend calls it: His iPda)
I will take some pictures and upload them if there is interest in the community.
Sadly enough I have to post that the iphone still doesn't charge the new battery. It seems that it simply ignores the AC input and runs fine until the battery is sucked empty. I have tried soldering the little control strip from the original iphone battery to the replacement, but that didn't help either. Now I again have sleepless nights and an angry friend.
After being unsuccessful with the Nokia approach, I had another go at the battery problem. Luckily I live in Beijing which is Nirwana for anything electronic and I found a cheapo Chinese battery replacement solution (5 Euro for the Chinese version, 13 Euro for the original iPhone battery). After soldering the battery into place, all my problems are solved. The phone charges again. Still no luck with the rest of the HW unlock though.
Should anyone be interested in the cheapest replacement batteries for iPhones available, PM me.
