[2.0.1] Drop of water in Iphone - speakers work/don't work

It all started when I got a splash of water on my pant pocket where my iphone was in. I'm assuming some water soaked in and got into the dock connection jack.

Here's the problem: Everything works except the speakers and a "This accessory is not make to work with iPhone" box pops up when I wake it from sleep.

The speakers don't work when I try playing music, videos, youtube, click sounds, etc., BUT when I receive a call the ringtone is working normally !!!!

Also, whenever the iphone is in sleepmode and I press the home button to wake it up, 2 seconds later the "This accessory does not work for iPhone" box pops up everytime.

As a side note, I found a weird short term solution in that when I load "Quake4iphone" app and then close it the speakers are back to normal ! So we're now thinking there's a software solution . But when I put it to sleep, EXACTLY 20 seconds later when I press wake the speaker is busted again and the "..does not work for iPhone" box appears again !

We've found nothing to fix this not even DFU restoring. There's been threads all over iphone forums trying to fix this problem but nothing's come up.

Hi!

Quake4iphone may have some init code for a gamepad controller add-on I'm working to get up and going. The controller addon uses the dock connector. I will see about getting that code to you, if you're interested in it. I have some open sourced version of the code I can share. If it is what Im thinking, it could be as simple as opening a bsd device serial port connection properly. If not, it's something more complex in my code.

Dry it out > Warm place for a day or two.
If it still doesn't work, sync & restore!

When I first saw your post I thought that you had 'dropped' it in water and I was like - dropped in water, doesnt work? duh? :-)

A drop of water? What happens when you are caught in the rain with the iPhone in your pocket?

I've put on a cover on my one surviving iPhone lest it slips and breaks akin to the guy in another thread I just saw. But now I think it needs its own raincoat!

So I tried the full dfu restore and too my surprise the problem is still the same. = (

I really thought this was software related since the "quake4iphone" trick made it work temporarily, but apparently not !?!?

Any ideas?

try waiting a day or two for the water to dry out. if the problem still exist u may want to try using an hairblower but be careful not to aim directly at the phone, give it a good distance or else it will damage your phone.

I've dried it out already with a blowdryer. It's been a week since.

I really think that some water got onto the dock connector "pins" which is why the "this accessory does not work with iphone" box appears sometimes.

Is there any way to clean the "pins" with a swab of alcohol ? Is that a good idea or will it damage it more ??

same thing happened to me. Got caught in the heavy rain in northern england over the past few days, phone was in my pocket and I think it soaked through. Now my music won't play, I can't hear people when I make a call and people can't hear me through the mic. Strangly though, when I put a call on loudspeaker I hear people but they still can't hear me. My alarm works and my ringtone works. Wierd as I'm sure they use the same speaker as the iPod and alarm etc.:confused: hopefully a few days turned off in the airing cupboard will do the trick. I'll keep u posted.

9hours after I posted the phone sorted itself out! Working fine now, well I say fine, the sound is back but the phone is still it's usual 2.0.2 buggy self! I think it just needed time to dry out. Hopefully if yours only had a little splash it will be alright in time. My sisters iPod nano survived a 30 degree spin in the washing machine! Good luck:)

Believe it or not, submerge the phone in a full bowl of uncooked (straight out of the box) White Rice, I don't know what it does, but it draws the moisture out over night, (i left one in for two days, worked like new) also works on wrist watches that have got moisture inside them (inside the lens).

Um... but it's been 2 weeks since the water got into the dock connector... i think the water is gone now. Sad to say, but I think the damage is done and is unfixable . I've searched everywhere =(

The last glimpse of hope is from this thread where a guy named funnysuresh has found a way to fix it by deleting a specific file called iapd

Apparently it works for <1.1.4 but not 2.x

I really hope one of you genius hackers can find a way to fix this it's really frustrating seeing this error box pop up !
