[Power] restarts immediately after powering it off
Hello,
when I power off my iPhone (by holding the wake/sleep button and then side to power off) then my iPhone shuts down but immediately afterwards it start up again. In other words, I cannot turn off my iPhone
Does anyone experienced the same problem? I did not drop my iPhone or anything because I heard stories of the wake/sleep button being stuck - this is not the case on my iPhone.
Does anyone has suggestions to solve the problem?
Thank you.

I have the same problem. Trying to find a solution.

what makes me believe this is in fact a hardware problem is that when I power it off the hard way (by holding the sleep/wake button and the home button) then it restarts as well. Also, if the battery runs down and the system decides to shut down the phone then the phone immediately starts again (which drains the battery until it can simply no longer power up).
Unfortunately, I live outside U.S. such that returning the phone for warranty is not an option :-(
It would be great to hear from people who had a similar problem and were able to fix it themselves or have insights on the cause of the problem.
Cheers

@wiggy: let's keep each other up-to-date through this thread. I have not been able to find any other people on the web with the same problem.
Some questions:
- Did your phone do this from the start - or - after hacking it? I belief mine did it from the start. This is an important question because maybe the error could lie with the firmware and restoring might be a solution - but I don't think it will for me.
- Did you drop your phone? I did not. Of course it is difficult to say what happened to the phone before I received it.

Today I made some progress in debugging the problem. When I put my iphone in the dock that comes with it then it says: "This accessory is not made to work iPhone". This is very strange to say the least but ok. Powering it of in this dock while connected also results in the same problem.
Now, here comes the strange thing. I also had an old dock lying around from my iPod G4. Placing it in that dock also results in the warning above when docking the iPhone BUT when I power it off in this dock it stays off! This result is irrespective of the dock being connected to a USB port or not.

I started noticing this problem after I unlocked the phone.
I am trying a full charge, mabey that will fix the problem. If that does not work then I will reformat the phone back to virgin status.
thanks

ok, I will try to clean the connector on my iPhone with a swab stick. someone posted a message that the warning he got with respect to incompatible third party was solved after cleaning it. I know it's a long shot but since using the iPod dock allows me to turn off the phone there might be a causal connection between the two. It would be good if you try using an iPod dock too to see if that also works for you. I will keep you posted about the cleaning attempt. I would love to hear if revirginizing the phone helps too.
Thanks.

If you have shell access, can you log into your iPhone and type "nvram -p". You shouldn't see much (anything) more than:
backlight-level 34
bootdelay 0
filesize 14474
auto-boot true

@musclenerd: my output is
backlight-level 34
bootdelay 0
filesize 14474
autoboot true
bootargs
What is its relation with the problem? Should the autoboot be false?
Thank you

My girlfriend drop the iphone in the toilet and after 2-3 days dry out everything come back alive except what you mention about wake/sleep being stuck and really similar to what happen on your machine.
