Default [Need Ideas/Experience] Dead zone and replacing iPhone

    Hey,
I'm from Canada and my iPhone recently got the dreaded deadzone on the top third of the screen. I unlocked it using gunlock on 1.1.2 and I can easily restore it to 1.1.4 and pretty much make it like new. I'm planning to head to an apple store in a few weeks to get it replaced under warranty I just think they might be suspicious since its been a few months and I haven't "activated" it. Hopefully they won't give me any trouble. Anyone got ideas on what I should do to make smooth out the process? I'm thinking about activating the phone doing the SN 9999999 trick (does that even work still?) so they won't be suspicious or anything but I'm thinking I probably don't have to since there is no physical damage with the phone and the warranty should cover the phone even without activation.

Anyone have experience with getting their dead zone iPhone swapped for a new one or something similar? Any ideas would be cool.

Most Apple reps want to see an activated AT&T sim in your phone before doing a warranty exchange... The point being, "how can you know your iphone does not work if you have not used it?"

In some cases you may get lucky and get away with it...

Second option, and this has always worked:

    1. Ask a friend who has a line with AT&T to let you activate the iphone with his line and go to the Apple store with his simcard in it. (The only problem is that he will probably have to extend his/her contract for an additional 2 years)

    2. Activate a new line with AT&T just for your iPhone, get a warranty replacement at the store and then cancel your AT&T line right away (you still have 30 days to cancel without penalties).

    Good luck!

    [1.1.3] (OTB 1.0.2) 8GB --- ALL OK!

The thing is the deadzone is at the top of the screen so I would be able to get to the emergency dialer and show them that the top doesn't work. I'm from Canada so the bottom 2 options aren't really an option for me.
