lcd screen issue or botched logic board?

alright so i have an old iphone 3g laying around that had cracks all over the glass. everything else was working fine. i decided to fix it myself and botched the job massively, cracking the lcd screen.

heres what it looks like:

now, it still works perfectly (3g, wifi, multi touch, sound, etc etc) just fine but as you can see near the bottom, thats where i cracked the lcd screen while trying to dislodge it (honestly, all of those youtube tutorials should STOP telling people to pry it from the bottom. all you have to do to remove the lcd portion is just to pull on the tabs on the side and it pops right out. wish i had known this *beforehand*)

now, i am getting multi coloured lines and all the colours on the screen are all odd and inverted. for example if i try to watch a video on the iphone, everything looks like its being put through the 'xray' effect in mac photo booth. i also get flickering lines running left to right as well.

i am wondering though, if only the lcd were damaged, shouldn't i just see bubbly/black shadows and not all of this other stuff? i can't help but think the logic board is now damaged too but i have no idea. anyone have more experience/knowledge who can help me with a more educated diagnosis?

From that picture its seems like a hardware problem, the LCD is damaged and i have fixed loads of iphones and i have seen this before.

yes its a hardware problem...but i was wondering if ppl thought if this were only an LCD screen issue or does it also extend to the logic board? i want to get it fixed and need to know how many things i need to get replaced! just to clarify that picture is not using a theme or anything..it seems all black colors have now turned white which leads me to believe something with the logic is now off but thats just mostly a guess on my part since i'm not sure how things work?

By the looks of it, you shoved a sharp implement like a screwdriver or something between the lcd and touch to separate the two parts, and cracked the lcd in the process. Based on what you said, I can say with 99.9% certainty that it is only the lcd, and nothing else. This is why you pay someone who knows what they're doing. There's lots of little things that should be taken into account when taking an iPhone apart that are not mentioned or shown on utube videos.

yep, i used a 'safe open prying plastic tool' to try and separate the lcd and digitizer. worst mistake ever. if its just the lcd damaged though then thats great!

it shows you how to pop out the lcd using the sidetabs unlike all of the other 1 minute tutorials that tell you to wedge the lcd apart at the bottom. ugh.
