iPhone touch screen issue
I got an iPhone in which the bottom half of the touch screen doesn't work. That means that i can't type, i can't slide to unlock, and can't change the auto unlock to never. Also I can't unlock, since i can't tap on YES to install BSD with Installer.app...
I know it's a hardware issue, and that i should bring it to the apple store, but since i'm at least 5000 miles away from the nearest apple store, I was wondering if there is any kind of crazy inversedisplay.app which i could install on the iphone, so that I can invert the screen to use the working upper half of the touch screen, at least to play with the iPhone until I find someone to bring it back to USA....
Just in case...
Thanks!

Reason: Added 3 zeros after the "5" in "5 miles away" sentence...

It sounds like you have a warranty issue.
I would bring it back before trying to unlock as unlocking will void your warrantee

I have the same problem with the display. Of course it just started about 2 weeks after doing the HW unlock. So now I am trying to figure the best way to repair it on my own. This site has the replacement LCDs, but I don't know if I need just the LCD or the LCD and Digitizer???

I am in the US, so purchasing from Hong Kong is not going to be the cheapest or easiest, but compared to having a non-functioning phone or paying the out of warranty repair cost through Apple, I don't know what other option I have.

Why not restoring your iPhone to the original firmware and stuff and then taking it to Apple for warranty repairing?
Good Luck!

I am not near an Apple Store (although not 5000 miles away!). My assumption is they will not replace the phone if I go into the store, so it will be sent off for repair. Eventhough my HW unlock went well and there is no visible damage, they will know the phone had been HW unlocked and opened. I doubt they would fix / replace it, knowing the warranty is void.
However, this does seem to be a defect that had nothing to do with me opening the phone, so I may give it a shot when I can... In the meantime, if there is anyone who is familiar with the LCD enough to know what components are defective, that would help in my decision to try and fix it.

If its a touchscreen problem, then you probably have a digitizer issue.

I`m having the same problem but in my iPhone there`s a "horizontal stripe" of about 1cm rigt above the middle of the screen where the touch doesn`t work.
First I thought it was software malfunction so I restored the iPhone, it continued, then I virginized my iPhone, restored ir again and it still doesn`t work.
It has never been dropped or anything, it just stopped working. Really seems like a hardware problem.
Anyone experiencing the same kind fo problem? Anyone has a solution, PLEASE?
It is less than one week old.. damn!
PS: I`m far from USA, so no applestore thing...

Hi
if the Phone was unlocked, I guess You did not have an AT&T PhoneCard ? This is what they asked me right away when I called their support. It's really a pitty for Apple with the AT&T Deal, I can only say their support is jhust great, have plenty of Apple Stuff, really throwing in a lot of money, but here, okay I am in Europe, okay I know I did something against the EULA, but when will we have the iPhone over here. Okay large countries get their quickyl, but i am in a small country, where it will probably take ages, and still, who says the market will be interesting enough for them.
I would have no problem at all to pay to apple itself a monthly usage fee, to compensate the "loss" of the AT&T deal, but, they have a great device, You can walk in any store and buy as much apple gear as You want, and here, noway, here You have to wait as a European customer not only the small delay of market introduction, no we have to wait perhaps forever, and we only want to give our money to apple.
This is what I did, and now, well the screen is dead, I am not able to get it replaced, and damn, what a great product I have in Hands, useless. I would buy directly a new one, but then still, what for ? To be illegal again ? Yes I would probably go for it anyhow.
I really think apple did a very smart job here with this AT&T deal (or orange,t-mobile,... in europe). but this deal is great for them, and normally as a company so open-minded to end-users, this time, they failed their goal. A Closed-system, a usage limit, keeping customers waiting forever due to discussion (or even not yet) with the telco's...
So please give us an altenative for those people loving apple, willing to pay, but they are the unlucky one's, because they live in a country where apple has not yet (or perhaps will never) introduce the device. Charge us 1000$ or whatever, but find a solution. We are 2007....
