    Question iPhone Pinouts?

Hi all; has anyone figured out any of the pinouts on the main/bottom connector of the iPhone? (Other than +5 volts and 0 volts that is)
All I have gathered so far is that the audio left and right outs are either different to the iPod or software dependant as my iPhone wont output iTunes Audio into any of my iPod adaptors and devices.
It just continues playing through the internal loudspeaker, which although is pretty good for it's size Doesn't really cut it in the car!?

    Smile iPhone pinout mod

Here is another link to a guy who has modded a Belkin Car adaptor to work with the iPhone.
Possible clue as to the pinouts (Adio out left & right etc)

I don't understand why he needed to hack his belkin connector. I have the same belkin kit and it works fine with my iPhone. Maybe because of update to 1.0.1. Unfortunately, I have not tested the kit with 1.0 firmware.

Hi; hmm, I upgraded my firmware too and still can't get audio out of my iPhone through a iPod adaptor?!
Going to pull apart an old firewire>iPod connector and poke about with a voltmeter.
Will let you both know what I find.

    Thanks for your interest.

Strange. Don't know why it works. And I'm not the only one. A friend of mine uses an FM adapter and it works. The only problem I found is that I have to turn on the radio before pluging the iphone. Otherwise, sound doesn't work each time.

    jacoch:
Huh! How does the transmitter or the iPhone know what the radio is doing or vice versa?! They're normally only linked by FM! The iPhone must detect an active input at it's outputs. Dunno.
    That is a strange one!
Does your Belkin adaptor go in over the Radio?

I talked about the FM transmitter of a friend. Just to say that it works too. Mine is the belkin auto kit. It's connected using dock connector to AUX entry of my radio. So I have to have my radio turned on before pluging the iPhone to be sure it works each time. My friend with the FM transmitter doesn't have this problem.

Yeah right; so the iPhone must detect an active input device in the dock before it will reroute the audio out through the main dock jack?
    Good to know.
