Unhappy iPhone not charging at all

    Hi,

i got an iPhone from a friend which seems to be not charging anymore.

Long stroy, but he had it unlocked with an older firmware (no idea which). He bought it unlocked and the guy who sold it to him told him to never turn off the phone Never heared about a simlock-remover like that.

Nevertheless, the phone crashed somehow and he did the firmware update to 1.1.1 without virginizing. So it was bricked. After some time, the battery was fully drained (he wasn't too sure, but it could be that the phone didn't charge anymore at that state). He got a guy who soldered in a new battery. But it didn't boot (stuck at apple logo, then turns off), so he asked me for help. I now found out the white and black cable of the battery were switched when soldered. After resoldered the cables, I managed to get the phone booting. After that I unbricked it. But still the battery doesn't charge. I tried different docks, and plug-in adapters. So i am 100% sure it's the phone. I had it plugged in for 3 days at least and it didn't change the battery status.

In my opinion there are several possibilities.
    - Maybe the battery got bad when it was soldered incorrectly? So a new battery will cure the problem?
    - Or there is some other hardware components broken. But no clue which one could be bad ...
    - something in the firmware part thats been broken and now showing an incorrect battery state?

Maybe some has an idea what it could be?
I cannot bring it back to Apple. First we are not in the states and second, it has been opened before to exchange the battery. Maybe there is a way to repair it....

    Thanks for your help.

There were already some discussions here in the forum when the hardware unlock destroyed the charging chip for a few guys who tried geohot's unlock method. Because of the reversed polarity, I would expect your problem to be of the same kind and the chip, being responsible for charging, went to nirwana.

Someone has found a shortcut by soldering an additional wire, I did't follow up whether this worked for others too. But it's worth browsing/searching the forum for "geohot hardware unlock charging" or similar.
