Default iPhone lens cover is it glass or Plastic.

Reason I ask is because mine has a huge scratch across it.
Im thinking of ways to replace it or polish out the scratch.
If its not pure glass then trying to polish it will just cloud it and ruin it.

Anybody know where I can get a replacement back for the phone ?
Or do I just cut out the existing cover and stick on a new pice of glass.

Any links to pics which show how the glass is held in place on the back of the cover ?

It's glass, and can shatter. So far as replacements, google is your friend of course, but you have a few options - all of which involve removing the current cover.

    1. Pull the cover off - go to an automotive repair shop and get a windshield repair kit. It's a special substance that cures clear under ultraviolet light. Follow the instructions, leave the cover out in the sunlight to cure. You can take super, super high grit sandpaper to smooth it down and buff it afterwards.

    2. Using the original cover as a template, get a piece of polycarbonate of similar thickness, and clamp the original cover to the polycarbonate. Using a flush-trim bit, take a router and route around the original cover - the bit will follow the contours of the original cover, giving you an exact duplicate.

    3. Buy a pre-made cover off the net.

If the scratch isn't too deep, you can get some wet/dry sandpaper from an automotive repair shop, and get super, super high grit. Fill your sink with water, and sand the cover evenly using a sanding block until the scratch is gone. Work your way up from 800 grip through the high thousands, then using rubbing compound to buff it smooth again.

Oops! I mis-read and thought you were talking about the screen cover...
