    Default iPhone bootrom

Hey, I was mostly just wondering out of curiosity, but does anyone know what kind of chip the bootrom chip is, and how it works? Is it a true ROM chip(i.e. Read-Only-Memory, which cannot possibly be written to)? Or is it more like an EEPROM chip(which can be written to, but only after being erased)? Or is it something else entirely?

In case your wondering, specifically I use an iPhone 3GS with new bootrom. I also use an iPod Touch 2G.

As far as I understand it is manufactured into the system on a chip (so in the same chip as the CPU). To change this would effectively require removing and replacing the whole SoC chip - not sure if this is possible to achieve without damaging it.

    Default Thanks...

Thanks...that answered my question...sort of. I guess I kinda thought I might understand(only a little bit) how that part of an iPhone worked(as I do know a little about the ROM, PROM, EPROM, and EEPROM chips). But this chip apparently is a different kind of chip. So I guess I don't really know much at all about these kinds of chips that are being used. Thanks anyhow!

You have to remember that the older concepts are still valid but they are now squashing multiple things into one package and calling it a chip.
