    Red face iPhone battery performance.

I have an iphone which was bought during the first couple of days it was launched. Im using it on the Airtel network in Calcutta, INdia using a silver card/supersim with 4-5 bars over 90% of the time. I can never get the phone last me a full day. I ran a test today with the following criteria. I hope some one can tell me if that is expected or is there something wrong with my battery.
it gave me a total standby time of 7 hours.with the usage stat showing a usage of 4 hours 53 Min. This usage time consisted of around 25 inxoming and 25 outgoing sms, 28 min of talktime, 20 min of video, 4 Min youtube on edge and a almost 2 hours of browsing on edge.
    Wifi off
    brightness 3/4 way up
    no apps installed except install.app
    ssh has been removed
    mail autochecks every hour
my equilizer is set to off
    vibrator + tone is on
its set to autolock in 1 Min
Please let me know if this is normal or if I should worry about it.or if you guys could post real time usage on your iPhones. companies do tend to stretch the truth a little bit on batteries and gain some adantage using optimum testing conditions but this is way off apple's battery life specs
    Thanks.

no I don't think u hv anything to worry about. 2 hr of web + utube already consumed up to 1/3 of your battery and edge is said to drain battery more quickly than wifi. Not surprising utube is the biggest battery drainer of all. Plus 11% of so time spent on talk and video. There, 50-60% already. SMS is probably like talk time since it uses the cellular chip.

And what's the best way to charge the battery? I mean, everybody is talking about battery cicles and calibration but what does that mean? that the best way to use the battery is charging it as much as possible?

    Example:

Get at work and you have there on your desktop your iphone's dock, so you put it there and it starts charging. Half an hour later someone calls you so you have to use the iphone, and when you finish with the call, should you set the iphone on the dock again and leave it going on with the charge? that way during all day? doesn't matter how long are the pauses between charging? I mean, if your out for launch time, when you get back at the office , the better is to dock it again? And when you get at home, plug your iphone's cable during the night so it charges again? So this way you're not doing any cycle of the battery and is better than don't charge the iphone during all the day and allow the battery to drain, and then charge; isn't this last the way to calibrate it? ain't it supposed to calibrate the battery once a month and going on with it like at the begging of my example, charging it as much as possible?

Could someone post a guide or something of the best way?

    Thanks in advance,

    Javi

Javi, there is no need to actually cycle or re-calibrate your iPhone's battery. Due to the type of battery it has you should have no worries about how you charge your iPhone. It comes out of the box with 40% charge and you just turn it on and use it, no need for initial charge either. Just plug it in anytime you have a chance and use away.

you should also be careful on heat generated if using a case. heat buildup reduces the life of the battery. this would mostly occur during charging.

Ok so it's better to charge it without the case. That's good to know cause I ordered an iwood and that will probably warm up the iphone. Thanks for the advice.

Also, about the charge, I will just use it and whenever I have the chance I will put it on its dock, but not try to have it always charging, right? I mean, about the example I wrote on my other post, during the night, what do you do? turn it off, charge, or nothing?

I'm worried cause my battery doesn't long too much, maybe one day if I use normally, so this last week I've been charing it when it was at low batt status, so I should have done like 4 or 5 cycles. I guess that's not the way to go with the iphone

    Thanks

    Try this:
    1. Run the battery all the way down until iPhone shuts itself off.
    2. Put the phone in the dock (it will power itself ON) & turn it OFF (Hold the sleep button for 3 seconds and power off). Leave it charging for 4-5 hours.
    3. Take the phone off the dock and leave it turned OFF for about 8 hours.

You can repeat the process 2 times if you wish. (I didn't).

And maybe one small suggestion: try to use AUTO brightness.
