Digitizer are for touch so if the touch part not working then you need to check the digitizer connector.

add a little padding on top of the connector 2 just like the original iphone connector 2 cable
make sure it's tight pressed down there

Maybe you broke one of this two:

If you make a little broken on the conector or the black cable, you death the touchscreen.
Try to clean the conector with isopropilic alcoohol.
ps: Sorry my english, i live in Brazil, but I work in tecnical assistance of Iphones, maybe I can help

hey guys this has been the most helpful site so far!
Im not computer whiz but i did it myself and the touchscreen didnt work.
BUT
when i leave the device open and hold down the end of cable 2 (end closest to the home button) the touchscreen works. so im going to tape something down over the top to hold it down.
hopefully that works!

just letting you know that i folded up some paper and taped it over the top of connection cables 1 and 2 and it did the trick!!!
yay a working non cracked iphone again

When you replaced the Digitizer, did the cable click into place as you have to make sure of this, don't worry about applying a little pressure.

Did you ever figure it out?? I have tried everything on this thread and I still haven't been able to get my phone to work.
I cracked my Iphone screen and ordered a new one after installing it my touch screen refuses to work. I have:
-tried redoing the installation many times
-restored it
-placed tape over connector 1 and 2
-folded up paper and taped it down over connector 1 and 2
I NEED HELP PLEASE!!!!

Did you make sure you bought the right part? 3g and 3gs digitizers look almost identical but the connectors are different. If the #2 connector doesn't snap in then it might not be the right one.

digitizer
Yea I had the same problem, I'm going to say the small ribbon on the digitizer it's self got cut or spliced, could of been from manufacture, I
am sending for a new one, I have done everything also, reset, restore, take out the logic board to stop power, nothing worked, so I would get a new digitizer.

#2 connector "snap" solution confirmed!
I had the same problem.. it turned out that the #2 connector had not "snapped" into place. Originally I thought I had secured it in place (something akin to what I figured was a snug fit), and when I turned on the iPhone, only a few spots on the screen had any touch detection.. the rest was essentially dead to touch response. I found this thread and honed in on the comment saying that the #2 connector had to "snap" into place. After opening the phone again, I really focused on setting it correctly, and finally got it to "snap" into place. This did the trick, and the touch screen now works perfectly.
