Exclamation [help] phone Usb issues - iphone not recognized

    Hey
My iPhone wont connect via usb. When i connect the iphone to the usb on windows a balloon pops up saying usb device not recognized the iphone wont charge as well. I tried using different usb port as well as a diff usb cable but didn't help. Other iphone(friends) does connect.

when i connect the iphone charges for a lil while and then starts up, after start up it shows a msg saying this accessory is not supported by iphone when i haven't connected anything to the iphone. it keeps switching off after a min or so until the battery is completely dead.

It used to connect to the comp before but after the msg started showing up it wont.

any help would be appreciated as i live in India and there is no apple store support as the don't sell iphone in India, here to get my replacement or get it fixed..

PLEASE help mine started doing this today
i noticed it wasnt on itunes anymore so I checked to see if it was lugged in and it was
i've tried with 4 different cables and 3 different wall chargers
it will NOT charge and Windows won't recognize the USB device
the ONLY way i've gotten it to charge is through firewire
I can still SSH into my iphone and such
but can't restore it because windows won't read the USB, and it won't come up on a mac either

guys, had the same problem and its been driving me nuts. I started a thread a few pages back on the subject. Phone worked great for a while and then suddenly stopped working. Didn't install any software and didn't abuse it....

Have tried pretty much everything I can think of to resolve but caught in a catch 22 as its not possible to restore the device without a USB sync. A very nice Apple Genius suggested that there is a way to do it thru terminal but a USB link is still needed. Google iphone not recognized and a number of articles come up with instructions of what itunes / Mac / Windows files to delete and then reinstall itunes as one possible solution. Swapping cables is another.

The same genius suggested that if I had done everything I had done then it was probably a hardware failure of some kind, so that is the next step for me.

Apple's stance on warranty is really dumb in these kinds of situations but that's life. Sorry to be the bearer of potentially bad news but it might save you many hours of frustration that I have had trying to find a solution.

    so it's pretty much unrepairable
ok well onto plan B how would i manage to exchange it for a new iphone?
    it's T Mobile, unlocked with ziphone 2.5c ver 1.1.4 BL 4A102

it's not a problem with the computer or cables
i've tried several different cables, even the 1st generation ones
    and 3 different computers
only way to get it connected is through firewire, which is pretty much useless, except for charging

    Good news bad news here.

Bad news is that Apple will not touch any phone that has been unlocked and because you (we) don't have a USB connection then its impossible to restore to a blank firmware which essentially hides the unlock from Apple. So exchanging in its current state is very unlikely. If you can restore then you might find a nice Apple Genius who will be cool with it. I found one yesterday who was super cool and didn't mind me asking lots of what if.... questions.

Good news is that there are plenty of people who can repair the phone, its just a matter of finding one. This is the problem I am now trying to deal with..... Have put a post in the hardware forum to see if anyone can provide a recommendation but no luck so far.....

Having done many hardware repairs, I can tell you that if it turns out to be a hardware failure, it'll most likely be in the comm board. One can be had on ebay for $50-$100.
It's the installation that's a bitch. Anyone who's done a hardware unlock will agree.. getting to the comm board without damage to your phone is very tricky and time consuming

oh boy. well thats not even an option. i came up with this plan to get a new refurb. pop out my tmobile card. pop in my AT&T card that came with it. SSH into my phone and delete EVERYTHING, to the point where it won't even boot up anymore and gets stuck on the apple logo with the spinny thing. Since apple only accepts activated iPhones I'll tell them that when I took it out the box it flashed twice when I plugged it in and this is what I got. ( the spinny logo) and that I can't even restore to fox the problem they should give me a new one. right?
