Default Has anyone been trying to hack the Bluetooth?

Right now the state of Bluetooth on the iPhone is pretty piss-poor. No OBEX. No A2DP. No SPP. Has anyone been trying to change this? I'd be interested in testing even alpha code that tries to rectify these problems.

I completely agree! We at least need A2DP, i mean c'mon.

I would be very interested if someone could give the iPhone A2DP capability!

Honestly, I thought the very first thing people would be concentrating on besides unlocking is the bluetooth. I guess it's just a very hard thing to do, IDK.

I think SPP support would be great, since then developers could write tons of applications for all those bluetooth enabled devices out there ...

btw: Apple uses a stack called bluemagic which (on their homepage) supports nearly all profiles. It is beyond me, why Apple only went for the headset profile :-(

iPhone using Bluemagic? Where'd you read that?

I looked into Bluetooth simply because I wanted to be able to access a gps unit from the iPhone and I didn't see anything about Bluemagic. What I did see was that the Bluetooth stack was pretty small and didn't seem to have everything done yet.

One particularly amusing string (although I think this was just the diag tool) says this:
"ACL/SCO DATA?!?!? What do you think I am? A Bluetooth stack?"

I'm fairly sure there's going to be more work done from Apple's side so I didn't continue. If you guys were in a hurry, your option would be to port a bluetooth stack from Linux. Not easy, and more time than I'd care for. And it'd break the normal iPhone Bluetooth features.

I dont remeber where, but i saw also the Bluetooth stack is Bluemagic.

Here is the procedure to A2DP in Tiger, I suppose that an anyway we can replicate this procedure for work in the IPhone,

    heh, that's pretty funny

I don't know about Apple providing more functionality. The general buzz coming out of those In The Know seems to be that Bluetooth chews up more power than it's worth. Which is a giant freaking shame, because those of us willing to sacrifice an hour or so of battery life get the shaft in the process.

Well, unfortunately, that's the price you pay when you buy Apple. They're going to make your user experience nothing less than flawless whether you like it or not.

i get the power argument, but i'd use the BT GPS profile in my car when my iphone is connected to my dension icelink setup which carges the iphone @ the same time! so power is not an issue... and most people have an iphone charges via the lighter/USB... i think the power argument is pretty lame from apple!

people want to be able to use GPS and i think tomtom would love to start selling s/w for the iphone, just like they sell their navigator s/w for windose mobile and palm OS right now!!!

i sold my treo650 which i used with the tomtom s/w and a BT gps mouse. sure it used a lot power, but since it gets recharged in the care it doesn't matter how much it uses!!! and for me using 2 phones is not an option!!! i use one iphone or no phone...

the wps google maps feature is neat, but the missing voice commands and the missing auto update make it unusable while driving alone... the other day i almost crashed into a car in front of me while approaching a red light... i felt like an idiot!!!
