Default Everything works EXCEPT power button

    3GS

    -Water damaged phone

-phone boots when plugged in and can be restored, although dies shortly after being unplugged and subsequently needs to be re-restored (battery is almost completely dead i think? or is this indicative of mobo damage)

-Power button, headphone jack/volume/hold buttons did not work so I replaced the power flex ribbon. Now the headphone jack/volume/hold buttons work, but the power button does not.

Did I receive a faulty power/flex ribbon? (is there even a chance of that considering everything else works??) I find it hard to believe that just the power button portion of the logic board could be damaged, whilst 99% of the rest of the machine still functions..

Anyone got any tips?? I really wanna DFU

    Thanks ALOT , much appreciated!

ps, the search option on the site wont work for me, so i apologize if this is a repost, if you're gonna punt me please at least link me to the corresponding post! thanks!

What SHSH does the iPhone have? Why do you need to DFU? Up until iOS 4.1 the jailbreaks for 3GS did not require DFU.

bah, i was toying with it on my laptop and forgot not to update to latest firmware

so, no jailbreak for me, no software shutdown. what i'm really most curious about though is... this peculiar dead hardware power a sign of logic board damage? and whats the ETA on a 4.2.1 dfu-less jailbreak?

Possibly never, according to rumours the various teams do have an iBoot exploit, but i highly doubt that they will ever release it as it is too easy for Apple to close and it is most useful for finding other types of exploits.

Now that a dfu-mode exploit is available for the 3GS, there is no point in revealing any other exploits than the necessary kernel level exploits (for untether)

If you have a SHSH for 3.1.2 - you can still restore back to 3.1.2 and jailbreak with blackra1n.
