    Default Earspeaker defect...??

    Hi everyone,
    Please I need help.....
I have an IPhone 3G that has one big problem: when I want to make a phone call I can only listen with my earphones. The phone is definitely NOT stuck in headset mode as all the other sound functions are working. ALSO when I place the phone to my ear, the light does not go off....
So now I am wondering what may be defect here... if it would be only the earpiece the light would go off right?
And it is also not a firmware prob as this problem is there since 2.02 and unfortunately still with 2.2 quickpwned and yellowsn0w....
    Please anyone any ideas???
    Thanx
    A.

Default iphone earpiece problem (and not the usual pull out the headphone jack)

I have found no solution so far for those of us that do NOT have the headphone problem (you have the headphone problem when it says headphone everytime you increase the volume even if the headphones are not being used).

For some reason the Iphone does not activate the headpiece unless the lower speaker is activated.

If anyone found a solution to this problem, PLEASE post it.

    Thanks

Sounds like this piece may be defective:

It has all the sensors on it, and also connects to the earphone on the phone. I would try to get that part replaced since it's a pretty cheap part. It's not a very easy thing to replace though. So unless you know what you are doing, I suggest you find someone who can do it for you. Replacing this involves removing the glass from the display frame. You may end up breaking your glass or scratching the black coating on the back of the glass if not removed correctly.
Did you get water on your phone?

No, I did not get water into the phone. The only thing I did was I had to open it a few times after one of these TurboSIMs got stuck!
So maybe I did not push one of these connectors, supposedly Nr1, hard enough in?

And one more thing concerns me: I had a serious system crash when using one of these TurboSIMs, could this have killed that hardware piece?

Well if this piece you mean is really defect I guess I will not be the one to replace this...

It could be that you didn't re-seat the connector properly. This connector has a tiny little plastic flap at the bottom that you push up almost 90 degrees off the circuit board when you want to take the ribbon cable out. It then easily slides out of the connector. To re-seat it, slide the ribbon cable snugly back into the connector and push the flap back down flush to the circuit board. Hopefully you did not damage the flimsy plastic connector when you removed the screen. I've seen that sort of damage before. It's a part that is commonly damaged when the screen is taken off with too much force.
Anyways, since you opened the phone up before, you should open it to see if the ribbon cable is properly set in the connector.

I've never heard of *sims causing hardware faults. They may be unreliable, and sometimes get stuck in the phone, but I doubt this is the cause of your problem.

Well I think that could be the problem. This connector you mean is the one that is located underneath on of the 2 black ones that are numbered 1 and 2 if I remember correctely. This one is a bit tricky to reinsert.. you mean this one I think!

I have to open it as soon as possible, will let you know. What if this plastic flap is broken?

    Thank you very much

Yes, it's the connector labeled 3. I'm not quite sure what you can do if the flap is broken. When you push the flap back down, it pushes the conductors onto the connectors on the ribbon cable. I doubt the flap itself is broken. People improperly removing the screen usually damage the plastic housing for the connector which most times doesn't affect it's functionality.

    Default Problem Solved

Thank you very much, it was this plastic flap, I did not push it up before inserting the connector cable nr. 3 and that was the reason. I inserted it correctely, now everything works!
Thanks again very much for the hint!
    All the best
