Exclamation Dropped iPhone, broken volume control.

so i dropped my iphone on its side, and the volume control on the left of the phone was the point of contact. now, the lower button (the lower half of the volume control) is stuck so i cant really press it down anymore. i can still increase the volume by pressing the upper half of the volume control, but sometimes no matter how long i press the upper button, the lower button is so stuck that it will completely decrease the volume/ringer/etc.

    a) i know theres no way (without paying a huge fee for repairs) to fix this, but is there a way to 'lock' the volume to the maximum (through some software hack or something)? you know, like lock the volume control so the only way to control the volume is thru the 'sound settings'.

    b) another way to fix this problem is to send it to apple. now, this phone is unlocked/hacked and im using tmobile on this thing. if option a is impossible, how can i reset my iphone completely so that if they (the apple tech) wont notice a thing that its been unlocked/hacked.
(im thinking that it is possible to send it to apple for free repairs since it is still under warranty. what i did with my ipod 5th gen was that it was nearing the end of its warranty- so i called tech support and made up a complete lie saying that my ipod's battery was 'dead' and that i need repairs. they actually replaced it for free with a new one. the thing was, my ipod was completely fine but they replaced it anyways. im hoping i can do this for my iphone as well)

i need any help desperately! thanks in advanced.

if its any help, i have a US iphone, unlocked via iphonesimfree, US t-mobile, fw 1.1.1

You'll have to Virginize it before sending it to Apple and i don't think this damage is covered by the guaranty.

Use the search if you want to read other threads talking about Broken buttons or Virginizing.

no, im not going to send it to apple for 'damages', i would be sending it to apple because the 'batter is dead'. like they did for my ipod 5th gen, they completely replaced my ipod. im just wondering if they would do the same for my iphone.

Odd, I was just about to post a thread about almost an identical problem. I too dropped my Iphone, and the lower button of the volume control won't 'click' anymore. This has made the button really sensitive and the volume level easily decreases unintentionally.

I found instructions on how to open the back casing on the phone, and managed to get the antenna cover off (the black thing). Getting the aluminium casing off proved to be more difficult, as I wasn't able to lift it enough to fit a credit card between the cover and the main body. I ordered these opening tools http://ucables.com/iphone-c2488 (I'll need the plastic things) and I thought I might give it another try when they arrive. They should be more convenient for getting the aluminium casing off than a credit card I don't really have any experience fixing phones (or anything else for that matter), but I recon repairing the button should be one of the easiest things to repair on the phone. If anyone else has repaired anything on their phone or even opened it, I would really appreciate comments on if it's worth the risk or if the repair can even be done. I just bought a good plastic case for the phone and maybe I'll just have to live with the broken button and use hope the case will protect it from further damage (I really should not be dropping it in the first place)..

On a side note, when I dropped the phone the ... vibrating thing... (English is not my first language) didn't work anymore. I switched it off for a couple of days and now it seems to have sprung to life again. Weird..

If you want to send it to Apple, just do a restore, remove you SIM and send it in.

There is another -software- solution for broken volume button. This solution disables the volume buttons (ONLY in 1.1.3 and 1.1.4! NOT 2.0+) and worked perfectly for me.

    The original post here: http://hackint0sh.org/forum/showpost...06&postcount=1

Or the guide copied to my webpage: http://btc.inara.nu/page.php?id=41 (if the link above does not work)
