Default [Dock Connector] How to replace it ?

    Hi all,
I was naive enough to think that i can exchange my faulty dock connector ( doesn't connect well after i inserted a cheap made dock interface from a cheap accessory ).

So i ordered a spare part and started dissassembling the iPhone.

Well, i went as far as one can get and realized i have to pry open the display assembly.

( i was able to open a small gap and it looks like it can be opened more but the display glass is bending dangerously ).

Anyone did this before, any help ?!?!
Any hint to someone who can do this for money ?!?!

Thanks for all kind of help, i am stuck !!!

    Nils

    Hi !
    cousincocaine:
ifixit only shows how to disassemle down to the screen assembly which i did.
It does not show how to go further e.g. to change the dock connector !
PLEASE correct me if i am wrong, it could always be that old brain problem of mine :-)

    mitchellmoxe:
you talk of screen fitting / replacement.
This is not exactly what i want.
I would send you the LCD assembly and the replacement dock connector and you would do the magic, how much would that be ??
( because replacing the screen would be easy now that i disassembled it :-)

    Thanks, more help anyone ?!?!

    enderffx,

first step to change the dock connector is
you have to disassembly the Display Assembly from the iPhone bone.

you need surgery blade to separate the Display Assembly from the bone, please do this very very carefully.

    1. On the top you need to remove the black tape
(please carefully with the flexible cable of touch panel - when take off the black tape, after that, loosen the touch screen circuit and the flexible from the bone.)

    2. You may use the surgery blade to separate LCD glass on the bottom, slide-in with the blade between LCD glass and the bone, slide and move slowly from the side to the center, continue to slide to the next side, slowly...and lift the LCD glass slowly, please take attention on the LCD lock on the side, release the lock with slide-in the thin tool which make sure won't damage the LCD.

    3. After released the LCD glass from the buttom, carefully to continue to release the LCD glass on the top, release the glass again with blade, carefully to release the Display's circuit & flexible cable from the bone which attached to the LCD/touch screen assembly.

    4. After released the display assembly completely from the bone, you may continue work to disassembly the bottom part of the iPhone's bone to change the dock connector.

    5. Disassembly the bottom part of the iPhone bone is more easy, still you need carefully to disassembly that, and you need glue to assembly those bottom part.

    - Too pity I'm far from your place or i could help you to change that..

    Good Luck..

    Hi all !

    Goku,
    wow, thank you !

Reading your instructions i really got scared :-)

As i need my iPhone next week ( holiday ), i assembled it again, but before trying again ( and following your instructions ) i guess i'd need some more advice:

The second photo i attached showed a gap i was able to open.
Is this the gap where i should insert the cutter ?!?!
    ( i dont think so, but... ).

When you say i have to seperate the glass, do i end up with the glass completely seperated ( able to see through it from top to bottom ) ?!?!

Are there any more instructions with photos or are you willing to help me when i am at this point again, send you photos where you can mark the right spot ?!

Thanks for your help, if needed & wanted i can give you my eMail as PM.

    @enderffx,

i mean you need to seperate the dispay assembly (LCD with touch screen glass) from the bone (middle plate).

when you seperate the display, carefull with the LCD lock on the side mid-plate, make sure you take off the display without harm the LCD or glass.

i took the photos already, but i don't know where i put on my directory ><" this night i'll post it the photos...sorry, i'm very very busy..><" but i'm willing to help, this night i'll do it..
