"Welcome to your New iPhone"
"Activate you iPhone with AT&T"
"Register with iTunes... bla bla"
What do I do next? Is it ready to unlock it? What application is best to use? (pls do not say ZiPhone...)
Is iPlus good?
Or is it better to use a Stealth SIM hack? I am kind of afraid now to use software hack since all this trouble started with ZiPhone.
Please help me out. I will come back with details.
At this stage, you definitely want to use the Pwnage tool

Tell you the truth, after all this headache that I went through and spending a lot (another $150 + shipping + damned customs) I am a bit afraid to just jump and do things. This is what I've done with the terrible ZiPhone that brought me here in the first place.
)law( , Could you please be more specific what do you mean by "throw out the *sim check the pwned section or the iplus/iliberty stickys"?
I don't know, perhaps in other conditions I would not be so freaked...

I am electronist and have quite a few tools for fine work but at the link where I bought the com board from, they sell the tools to open the iPhone too.
I had exact those tools before when I changed a battery from an older iPod but found them very cheesy, too soft to open the iPhone and when I tried them first, they broke very easy.
What I used to open the iPhone was a tool that I made from a strong nylon/plastic plate of about 5mm think, much stronger that those soft blue plastic tools that they sell. I made two ends with similar ends as original pictured tools in the guide link posted.
I found a good idea to use one of those kitchen white nylon plate cutters that are sold instead of wood plate cutters.
Even with this stronger tool I had to cut it and sharpen it twice during the process to avoid any unnecessary force and to leave any mark on the phone edge.
I found this process to open an iPhone not an easy task at all, as one guy wrote here that he would do it for 5 pounds or so. No, I would not do it for that.
It requires lots of patience for about three-four hours.
To open the phone is one challenge, then to work around all those connectors is another big challenge. All those guys that say they do not have signal or WiFi and it is not s/w related but opened in one point the iPhone is most probably because the small white coax cables are not making good contact or were poorly re-inserted or damaged. The com board is supposed to make ground contact with the cover. The attempts to insert tapes or other weird stuff, press here or there are useless. This phone is not a toy and I noticed that it is done with very high engineering designs, electronics and micro connectors.
I would say, if you are familiar with repairing electronic watches or similar electronics, than you will know how to work with an iPhone.
It is very important to work in a super clean environment on a grounded mat and with ground wrist or foot strap!
One thing that I found in the given guide (link previously posted): it is NOT necessary to remove the battery (to un-glue it and create one more risk to damage it). But it is very important BEFORE removing any connector is to de-solder carefully the three battery contacts from the com board and stick then with a tape on the battery until the board is replaced. Avoid any short between the wires. Remove the RED wire first and when done solder back the RED wire last.
It is also unnecessary to take apart camera and logic board. All should stay in place. The com board could be removed better by:
- de-solder the battery wires.
- remove two screws placed diagonally of board.
- clean the glue around coax cables (very carefully).
- extract carefully the coax connectors (antennas).
- pry up easily the com board shielding from one side and work around.
The board will come off and then work backward with the new com board.

What I was afraid most, it happened!
So the iPhone after replacing the com board, it successfully updated to 1.1.4 asking to activate with with AT&T.
As per advice here, I run iPlus at command prompt. It did all the think, scrolling, etc and at the end rebooted. I placed my SIM (Rogers) and iTunes and on the iPhone display says: "This SIM was not made to work with this phone" (????)
The unlocking process went just fine with iPlus, so I don't understand.
I have inserted the At&T SIM and again that message to activate it was on, and I said, OK, it is back to normal!
I said perhaps the iPlus did not worked, even the scrolling messages on the iPhone were there and it took about 3-5 minutes to complete.
Then I said I will use the mac with iLiberty. I did and the jailbreak process got locked at about 30% for more than one hour! I disconnected and I had minor 0, major 2 error !!!!! Fucking thing! I hate it!!!!
I tried turn it in DFU and did an upgrade and now no matter what I do I get "error 1604"
