Firstly, if you care to read the forum, you'd notice loads of threads already talking about how to downgrade... Secondly, why would you want to hardware unlock when the software unlock for fw1.0.2 is available???

As far as I can tell there are no posts which tackle the issue of doing a baseband update using geohots method on phone fw 1.02 but with the new 4.xx bb firmware!

I too am interessted in if apple has disabled the hardware unlock with this new bb firmware.. has anyone tried this yet?

maybe HW unlock could bypass baseband and inject baseband downgrade

please correct me if i'm wrong,
the hardware unlock is use the "test point"
to reset and upload the edited ver. of baseband,

then now the problem of FW1.1.1 downgrade to FW1.0.2 is not include baseband,
so i think we can use hardware unlock to downgrade the baseband after
    FW1.1.1 downgrade to FW1.0.2

Yes I'm very interested in this as well. I'm not a engineer or a software developer but if I understand geohotz blog correctly, the test point is a way to bypass the baseband checks and therefore overwrite the baseband with a virgin or hacked 03.14.08_G.

The testpoint forces the bootrom to offset its memory adressing to read some adresses incorrectly. These incorrect adresses can, as opposed to the correct ones, be written to read blank, allowing us to erase the current firmware.
Although I'm not fully aware of the technical details here, I cant really see why this shouldnt still be possible given that apple hasn't actively taken preventive measures against this in their new fw.

Though I'm guessing that preventing this behavior isn't exactly top priority for apple, since the impact of the software unlock is far far greater for their business.

Someone ought to try this though, i'd love to but my phone is already hardware unlocked 1.02 and i like to keep it that way =)

i just reread the hardware unlock blog and noticed that in order to use "ierase" you need the secpack from your current baseband, which i guess for the new BB update is still unavailable. I thought that we did have a NOR dump of the 1.1.1 baseband though, would it be possible to extract the secpack like we've done for the previous baseband?

Even then, I guess there is still a chance that ierase was specifically written for 1.0.x baseband.

So that seems pretty close minded.
