    Default Calibrating accelerometer ???

    Hi all,
i realized some time before ( Labyrinth game ) that my accelerometer is off a *bit*, not much...
With the latest apps coming up ( iLevel and so on ) i thought:

Is my accelerometer broken or is it just misadjusted a bit ?
( i would guess that my iLevel shows to be leveled if my iPhone is tilted about 5 dgrees. While that doesn't seem much, try to build a bridge based on that data )

Soo: is everyone else just ignoring a slightly misadjusted accelerometer or am i the only one ?

If every accelerometer is slightly off in this or that direction ( PLEASE TRY ) then we all could need an accelerometer calibration either in each separate application or system-wide if there is that possibility...

If its just mine i guess i have to live with it. no big deal, just annoying.

    Greetings,

    Ender

Is it the game or is it the phone? How can you be sure?

    Hi !

Other apps ( iLevel, Level, ... ) show the same amount of misadjustment...

Thats why i am sure its not the app !

So i am not alone, that gives me a warm feeling :-)

I guess sooner or later the apps that need it ( iLevel ) will receive a calibration feature, other apps ( Labyrinth ) can be used 100% witout calibration, its just some degrees...

    Greetings,

    Ender

    Hey,

As far as I know, the apps are made based on the script from and actual iphone accelerometer. This means that whatever differences there are between the iphone whose code was used to build the app and your iphone will result in that much of a discrepancy on your iphone. I'm not quite sure if thats how it works so if someone would like to correct me please do.

I would think that you are right.

That leaves us with 3 options:

-1- There is a System Function to calibrate / correct acc. data, lets find & use it :-)

-2- all dev'ers can agree on one preferences file where the calibration is stored and we need one small calibration tool that writes that file ( using a real world level tool to calibrate all 3 direction )

    -3- no one cares ( most likely ) :p

    I vote for the 2nd

Playing Labyrinth is disturbing because you must tell your brain that the level of your inner ear and what you see (the phone/pod tilted like 5) is the same.

    Hi!
i have a real problem with my accelerometer! i dropped my iphone from about a Foot (30cm) on the ground. Ever since then my accelerometer is way off (X 76%, Y 26%, Z 96%). I read in other threads, that the accelerometer is built into the monitor. Is that correct? Will i have to replace the monitor or will there be a software to calibrate the a.m. soon ?
    thanks
    Pat

When I play Labyrinth OR iLevel or Level or iPhysics, it seems like the accelerometer is a bit off (the ball comes quite speedily towards the side of the main button and also to the right of the main button, however, in iPhysics Sandbox, the balls gather to the down-left corner when on a flat table. Is there any way to change the settings of the accelerometer? And where do You find out the X's and Y's?
