SystemInfo application (on Installer) tells you precise X Y Z values. As for all iPhones being off, not the case, I sat mine running iLevel on a spirit level to see if I could rely on it and they matched.

you dont need an external "real" level to calibrate the iphone. The only thing we need is a program that lets you to "zero" the internal iphone. So if somebody can came with a program that lets you "set" a value, then you turn the phone 180 degrees and set a new value, then the iphone will be calibrated. of course you have to do this on all axles.

I'm having problems with the accelerometer also! My screen won't flip. For eg. when I'm on safari I turn the phone 90 and nothing happens, the screen stays the same! This happens in iPod and every other application with the flipping feature. I would really appreciate some guidance on this matter, since I'm not in the US and my country (Argentina) does not currently have Apple tech support.
    Thanks for your help.

edit: I forgot to mention that I might have dropped my iPhone from about half a foot, like 15cm... so maybe the screen would have to be replaced and no software solution is possible.

Same problem here. My iPhone's axis are off too (around 30). Still nothing to calibrate ?
