[Button] power/sleep doesn't work
I had an iphone using firmware 1.1.2 and with StealthSim unlock. The iphone has been dropped into the water, but is still functioning untill one day the StealthSim is defective.
I then decided to use PwnTool to restore it to 1.1.4. I start using Ziphone to set it in recovery mode and then restored to 1.1.4 in itunes. And then Pawned it and restore with a customized firmware file.
The iphone was after this procedure broken in bluetooth and wifi(both disabled). After several hours research I found soloutions by using iLiberty to fix the two above problem.
I thought I was done, but the power/sleep button does not work as it should which means I cannot press it once and set the iphone i sleep mode(but the button works when I hold the power and the home button at once, the iphone goes into recovery mode). I then tried automatically to set the iphone to turn off after 1 min.
It does turn off after 1 min and I can activate the iphone by using the home button. The problem arises when I leave it longer(a couple of minutes) the iphone keeps rebooting itself and shows the apple logo and there is no way to turn it back on again. The only way I can do is to plug the USB cable into it and it starts normaly. Does anyone have a clue how to correct this problem?

Same Problem
Hello,
I recently dropped my iphone in the sink. ( thank you hip holster for ejecting it directly under running water) Anyways I am having the same problem with the sleep/wake button not working, and the random resetting. I am currently looking for a replacement button to install, have you had any luck finding out any other information on the subject? Please let me know as I will pass on any info that I can find to you.
Thanks,
Jonathon

You all have the same problem, and it's most likely the ribbon cable for the power/headphone/silent/volume. The part is different for 4GB/8GB and 16GB iPhones. For the right part number, look at this thread
http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=41500
The part in question is this one:

If the part number is not listed, you should probably contact the seller to get the part number.
The hardest thing about any 2G iPhone service is getting the phone open without causing damage. If you can do that, then this is a cheap and easy fix. If you've never opened a 2G iPhone before, then take it to a repair shop.
Where water damage is concerned, it may be more than just the ribbon flex cable. The problem may be elsewhere, and may involve replacing the logic board and/or comm board as well. It's hard to say until an new flex cable is installed. I'd say in most cases, replacing the flex cable should be enough.
Good luck
